Connecting the Active and Standby Servers

Connecting the Active and Standby Servers

This section describes how to connect the active and standby servers using the maintenance tool. After eSight is installed on the active and standby servers, you must connect the active and standby servers to establish an HA system.

Prerequisites

  • The active and standby servers have been installed.
  • eSight of the same version and with the same components has been installed on the active and standby servers.
  • VVR ports can be connected.

Context

  • After you log in to the maintenance tool client on a server and connect the server to the other server, this server becomes the active server and the other server becomes the standby server.
  • After deploying the HA system, you can start the eSight service only on the active server. The eSight service is unavailable on the standby server.
  • After deploying the HA system, you can start and stop eSight refer to Stopping the eSight Service and Starting the eSight Service.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the active server as the root user and run the following command to query the NMSServer resource status:

    # hares -state NMSServer -sys Host name of the active server

If the command output is ONLINE, go to 5. Otherwise, go to 2.

  2. Log in to the active and standby servers as the root user and run the following command:

    # hagrp -offline AppService -sys Host name of the server

Run the following command to check the status of the APPService resource group. Perform the subsequent operations only when the resource group is in OFFLINE state.

    # hagrp -state AppService -sys Host name of the server

  3. Log in to the active server as the root user and run the following commands:

    # hares -online FloatIP -sys Host name of the active server

    # hares -online mountFileRes -sys Host name of the active server

  4. Start the maintenance tool on the active server as the ossuser user.

    # su - ossuser

    > cd /opt/eSight/mttools/bin

    > ./start-sysmon-ha.sh

  5. Log in to the eSight maintenance tool on the active server from a client.

    • Log in to the eSight maintenance tool using Firefox or Chrome.
      1. In the address box, enter https://floating IP address of the eSight server:31945 and press Enter.

Follow instructions in the What Do I Do If eSight Displays a Security Certificate Error During Login to rectify the fault if the message "This Connection is Untrusted" is displayed.

      2. Enter the user name sys and the user password, and click Log In.

The maintenance tool provides only the sys user. The initial password of the sys user is Changeme123.

  6. Choose HA Management > HA Deployment from the main menu.
  7. Select Join and set Remote IP and Remote password.

The Remote password field indicates the password of the ossuser user of the operating system on the standb server. The default password is Changeme_123.

  8. Click Apply.

Click Yes in the confirmation dialog box that is displayed to connect the active server to the standby server. The system automatically specifies the current login server as the active server.
