Applying for and Loading an eSight License

The eSight license file is used to control the functions and management capabilities of eSight. eSight offers a 90-day free trial period. After the trial period ends, you need to apply for and load a commercial license.


To apply for a commercial license, you must have the Guest permission of the ESDP platform. You can obtain the Guest permission of the ESDP platform after applying for an account on Huawei's official website.


A license file is an authentication file that a special encryption tool generates based on the information about the contract that a user signs with Huawei and the information about the server where eSight is installed. After obtaining a license file, load it to eSight manually to obtain permission to use eSight.

  • The license file is not delivered to customers along with an eSight installation DVD. Apply for a license according to the contract number and the equipment serial number (ESN) of the eSight server.
  • A license needs to be bound to an ESN of the server. If an ESN is changed because an NIC or server is replaced, update and re-import the eSight license. For details, see the eSight License User Guide.


  1. Obtain an activation password.

    The password can be found in the license entitlement certificate.

    The paper license entitlement certificate is delivered with the product, while the electronic copy is directly sent to the mailbox of the distributor that has signed contracts with Huawei. If you do not have the paper or electronic certificate, contact Huawei's channel partner and provide your contract number to activate the password.

  2. Obtain the server ESN.

    1. Access the eSight login page, and log in to eSight as the administrator.
    2. Choose System > System Manager > License Management.
    3. Click Obtain ESN.

    4. Obtain the ESN by entering or selecting the MAC address.

      For the HA system, obtain the ESNs for MAC addresses of NICs on the active and standby nodes. Separate the ESNs with a comma (,) when applying for a license for the HA system.

    • Method 1: Select the NIC on the eSight server.

      eSight automatically obtains the NIC information on the eSight server. Record the ESN.

      You can use this method to obtain the ESN of the current logged-in server only. To obtain the ESNs of other servers, you need to enter their MAC addresses.

    • Method 2: Enter the MAC address of the eSight server and click Generate ESN.

  3. Apply for an eSight license.

    1. Log in to ESDP ( and choose License Activation > Password Activation.

    2. Enter the activation password.
      1. Enter the activation password in the Password text box.

        Click Add to add more passwords to activate them in batches.

      2. Read the preceding information and select I have read the above carefully.
      3. Click Next.

    3. Fill in the ESN or click to select an existing device (NE) to obtain the ESN. Separate multiple ESNs with commas (,). Then, click Next.

    4. After the activation information is verified, click Confirm Activation.

    5. In the dialog box that is displayed, click Confirm.

      The activation task is submitted, the Operation Record page is displayed, and the task name is Activate License By Password.

    6. Download the license file.
    • Website

      You can check the task progress on the Operation Record page. After the task status is changed to Success, you can download the license.

    • Mailbox

      After the task is executed, the system sends an email to your registered mailbox and you can download the license from the mail attachment.

  4. Load an eSight license file.

    1. Run the following command to freeze the AppService resources to prevent eSight switchover due to automatic eSight restart after license import:

      # hagrp -freeze AppService -sys Host name

    2. Log in to eSight as the administrator.
    3. Choose System > System Management > License Management from the main menu.
    4. On the License Management page, click Import License.

    5. Select a license file and click Upload.

      The license file name cannot contain any space character. If the name contains a space, uploading or updating the license file will fail. If the name of the obtained license file contains space characters, delete the space characters or change them to underscores (_) before using the license file.

    6. Click Apply.
      • If the imported license does not include functional module changes but includes only resource item quantity changes, or the license corresponding to the functional module is added or deleted but eSight does not have the corresponding functional module installed, eSight does not need to be restarted and the imported license takes effect immediately.
      • If the imported license includes functional module changes (licenses of the corresponding functional modules are added or deleted) and eSight has the corresponding functional modules installed, perform an operation in the dialog box that is displayed.
        • If Yes is clicked, the eSight automatically restarts in one minute. The imported license takes effect after the eSight restarts. Functional modules without licenses are not started.
        • If you click No, eSight does not restart and the license import is terminated. The existing license is still used.
    7. If AppService resources are frozen, run the following command to unfreeze the resources:

      Before unfreezing the resources, ensure that eSight has restarted, which may take 10 to 20 minutes.

      # hagrp -unfreeze AppService -sys Host name

Follow-up Procedure

After the license file is loaded, choose System > System Manager > License Management and check the license items and resource items.
