Question

The password of the Oracle database user SYSTEM failed to be changed with the maintenance tool. What can I do?

Answer

  1. Log in to the eSight server as the ossuser user and run the following command to switch to the oracle user:

    su - oracle

    For an HA system, perform the operations only on the active server.

  2. Check whether the SYSTEM user is locked. If yes, unlock it.

    1. Log in to the sqlplus.

      >sqlplus / as sysdba

    2. Run the following command to query the user status:

      SQL>select username,account_status from dba_users where username='SYSTEM';

      If the value of ACCOUNT_STATUS is LOCKED, the user is locked.
      USERNAME                         ACCOUNT_STATUS
      --------------------------------------------------------
      SYSTEM                             LOCKED(TIMED)
    3. Run the following command to unlock the user:

      SQL> ALTER USER system ACCOUNT UNLOCK;

      If the message "User altered." is displayed, the user is unlocked. In this case, the status of the user is displayed as OPEN.

      USERNAME                         ACCOUNT_STATUS
      --------------------------------------------------------
      SYSTEM                            OPEN

  3. Change the database password with the maintenance tool. For details, see "Security Maintenance > Password Change > Changing the Password of a Database User" in the Maintenance Guide.
