Connecting the Active and Standby Servers

Connecting the Active and Standby Servers

After eSight is installed on the active and standby servers, you need to connect the active and standby servers to form a high availability system. This section describes how to use the eSight maintenance tool to connect the active and standby servers.

Prerequisites

  • Installation operations in preceding sections have been performed on both the active and standby servers.
  • The eSight version and components installed on the active and standby servers are the same.
  • The ports used by the VVR can be connected properly.

Context

  • After you log in to the maintenance tool client on a server and connect the active and standby servers, this server becomes the active server, and the other server becomes the standby server.
  • After deploying the HA system, you can start the eSight service only on the active server. The eSight service is unavailable on the standby server.
  • The HA system has special requirements for starting or stopping eSight. For details, see Starting the eSight Service and Stopping the eSight Service.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the active server as the root user and run the following command to query the NMSServer resource status:

    # hares -state NMSServer -sys Host name of the server

If ONLINE is displayed in the command output, go to 5. Otherwise, go to 2.

  2. Log in to the active and standby servers as the root user and run the following command:

    # hagrp -offline AppService -sys Server host name

Run the following command to query the AppService resource status. Perform subsequent operations after ensuring that the resource status is displayed as OFFLINE:

    # hagrp -state AppService -sys Server host name

  3. Run the following commands on the active server:

    # hares -online FloatIP -sys Host name of the active server

    # hares -online mountFileRes -sys Host name of the active server

  4. Start the maintenance tool process on the active server as the ossuser user.

    Run the following commands:

    # su - ossuser

    > cd /opt/eSight/mttools/bin

    > ./start-sysmon-ha.sh

  5. Log in to the eSight maintenance tool of the active server from a client.

    • Log in to the eSight maintenance tool using Firefox or Chrome.
      1. Enter https://Floating IP address of the eSight server:31945 in the address box and press Enter.

If a message indicating that the connection is not trusted is displayed, see What Do I Do If eSight Displays a Security Certificate Error During Login.

      2. Enter the user name sys and its password. Then, click Log In.

The initial password of the sys user is Changeme123.

  6. Choose HA Management > HA Deployment from the main menu.
  7. Select Join and set Remote System IP and Remote ossuser password.

Remote ossuser password indicates the password of the ossuser user on the standby server. The default password is Changeme_123.

  8. Click Apply.

In the displayed Confirm dialog box, click Yes to connect the active and standby servers. The local server will be forcibly set to the active server by the system. The server to which the user logs in becomes the active server.

If the message "Succeeded" is displayed, the active and standby servers are connected successfully. Then, the system synchronizes data from the active server to the standby server.

  9. Click Close.
