Example: Restoring Data in a New Environment Using the Maintenance Tool Backup Package (SUSE Linux/EulerOS)

If the operating system, database, or eSight is faulty and cannot be recovered, you can use the historical backup package of the maintenance tool to restore eSight data in the reinstalled new environment.

Prerequisites

  • If the backup is performed locally, obtain the maintenance tool backup package and the corresponding index file.

The backup package is stored in the specified backup path. The default backup path is "eSight installation directory/AppBase/backup". The backup package format is eSightIP address _AppBase_ timestamp.zip.

The index file is stored in "eSight installation directory/mttools/etc/sysconf/backup". The format of the index file is local_manual_ timestamp .xml.

  • You have obtained the passwords of the database system administrator and the database NMS user before the reinstallation.
  • The new eSight environment has been installed. The operating system, database, eSight version, eSight network plan, eSight components, and eSight installation directory on the server are the same as those before reinstallation.

Context

  • Veritas HA system

If only one server needs to be reinstalled, restore the data by referring to Procedure and establish active and standby connections with another server after the installation.

If both the active and standby servers need to be reinstalled, restore the data on the active and standby servers by referring to Procedure and establish active and standby connections after the installation.

  • ommha HA system

If only one server needs to be reinstalled, install a new eSight environment and connect to the active and standby servers. Then, take the non-faulty server as the active server and establish active and standby connections with the new eSight environment. No data restoration is required.

    NOTE:

In the new environment, you only need to install the basic eSight version. No patch version is required.

For details about full image installation, see eSight Installation Guide.

For details about how to manually install eSight, see Damaged Server OS or Hard Disk.

If both the active and standby servers need to be reinstalled, restore the data on the active server by referring to Procedure after the installation.

  • Single-node system

Restore eSight data by referring to Procedure.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the reinstalled server as the root user.
  2. Change the passwords of the database system administrator and database NMS user to those before the reinstallation. For details, see Password Change Overview.
  3. Set the backup policy to that before the reinstallation. For details, see Automatic Backup.
  4. If the backup policy before reinstallation is to back up data to the local server, upload the maintenance tool backup package to the backup directory. The default backup directory is "eSight installation directory/AppBase/backup". Upload the index file to "eSight installation directory/mttools/etc/sysconf/backup". If the backup policy is to back up data to a remote server before the reinstallation, perform the following steps.
  5. Restore eSight data. For details, see Manual Restoration.
  6. Start eSight. For details, see Common eSight Operations.
  7. Verify eSight services. If eSight services are abnormal, contact Huawei technical support.
