Checking the License Usage

Checking the License Usage

Maintenance personnel must periodically check the license usage to purchase and update the license before license expiration or the license usage exceeds the alarm threshold.

Impact on the System

  • No limit is imposed on the validity of an eSight commercial license. That is, it will not expire. However, a non-commercial license (for example, a temporary license or a commissioning license) has an expiration date. After the license expires, you need to apply for and load a commercial license.
    • After the license expires, there is a 60-day protection period during which services are not affected. When you log in to eSight, the system prompts you to update the license. An alarm will be displayed 15 days before the end of the protection period, informing you that the license is to expire. After the protection period ends, an alarm indicating that the license has expired will be displayed.
    • After the 60-day protection period, you cannot log in to eSight and the northbound functions (including SNMP northbound, FTP northbound, and OpenAPI northbound interfaces) are unavailable. Functions that are not affected include device alarm reporting, performance data collection, AAA authentication, and message notification.
  • If the license usage exceeds the preset alarm threshold (default: 80%), eSight will generate the ALM-999999994 The License Usage Exceeds the Threshold alarm, which has no impact on the license usage. If the license usage reaches 100%, you cannot add corresponding resources.

Table 6-4 describes the license information.

Table 6-4 License information

Basic License Information

Expiration Date

Date when the license file expires.

Notification Days Before Expiration

A 60-day protection period is provided after license expiration. eSight generates an alarm that the license will expire to notify users every day since 15 days before the deadline of the protection period. If you log in to eSight during this period, the eSight client will prompt you to update the license.

The default value is 15.

For example, if the expiration date is May 1, 2014, eSight reminds you of the license expiration on June 16, 2014.

Resource Control

Resource Name

Name of the resource that is managed by the license.

eSight Network Management License (Device)

License Usage

Usage of license for resource management.

The value indicates that the number of resources managed by the license is 2000, and 30 are used.

Major-Alarm Threshold

An alarm is generated if the resource usage exceeds the specified alarm threshold.

Function Control

Function Name

Functions provided by eSight.

eSight Network SLA Manager

Supported or Not

Whether the function is supported by the license.

Revocation Code

License Revocation Code

Function of revoking the current license to obtain the license revocation code, which, together with the equipment serial number (ESN), can be used to apply for a new license. This function applies to the scenario in which eSight detects that the license file does not match the server network adapter within the license validity period.

Reference Standard

An official license is used and the license usage does not exceed the alarm threshold.

  1. Log in to eSight.
  2. Choose System > System Management > License Management from the main menu.

On the License Management page, check Validity period and License Usage.

Exception Handling

  • Purchase an official license if the current license has expired or will expire.
  • Perform either of the following operations if the license usage exceeds the preset alarm threshold:
    • Apply for a license to obtain more license resources.
    • Delete unnecessary devices to release resources and reduce the license usage.
