Starting and Stopping the eSight Server (Windows Single-Node or Distributed System)

This section describes how to start and stop the single-node eSight server or distributed system on Windows. The startup operations include secure power-on, database startup, and eSight service startup. The stop operations include eSight service stopping, database stopping, and secure power-off.

Powering On the Server Safely

Power on the Huawei 2288H V5 or RH5885H V3 on condition that the power supply is normal.

Prerequisites
  • Ensure that the power cables and ground cables are securely connected with correct polarity and good contact.
  • The cabinet where the server resides has been powered on.
Procedure
  1. Power on the 2288H V5 or RH5885H V3 server.
  2. Press the power buttons on the peripherals and monitor connected to a server.
  3. Wait 2 to 3 minutes. When the green indicator on the front panel of the server blinks every 1s, press the power button on the shelf of the server.

    NOTE:

    If the power button is steady on, the server has been successfully powered on. For details about Huawei server indicators, see the manual for Huawei servers or log in to the official Huawei website.

    Figure 3-1 shows the power button of the 2288H V5 server.

Starting the Database

eSight can start properly only after the database is started.

Context

All eSight databases can be automatically started.

  • If eSight uses the SQL Server database, you do not need to manually start the database. The SQL Server database automatically starts with the operating system.
  • If eSight uses the MySQL database, you do not need to manually start the database. The MySQL database automatically starts with eSight.
Procedure
  1. Log in to the SQL Server database server as the Administrator user.

    NOTE:

    If security hardening has been performed for the Windows operating system, you need to log in to the server as the SWMaster user.

  2. Choose Start > All Programs > Microsoft SQL Server 2012 > SQL Server Configuration Manager.
  3. In the SQL Server Configuration Manager window, select SQL Server Services. Right-click SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) on the right and choose Start from the shortcut menu.

    NOTE:

    In the step, MSSQLSERVER is the instance name of the SQL Server database. Select the instance name based on the site requirements.

Starting eSight

This section describes how to start eSight.

Prerequisites

If the SQL Server database is used, ensure that the database service has been started.

Context

By default, the eSight service automatically starts with the operating system.

NOTE:

On the eSight Console running the Windows operating system, you can click Settings and select or deselect Startup with Windows automatically to specify whether eSight automatically starts with the operating system.

Procedure
  1. Start the eSight service.

    • Log in to the eSight server as the Administrator user.
      NOTE:

      If security hardening has been performed for the Windows operating system, you need to log in to the server as the SWMaster user.

    • Choose Start > All Programs > eSight > eSight Console.
    • In the eSight Console dialog box, click Start.

      When the status of every process is RUNNING and "starting eSight system succeeded" is displayed, the eSight service has been started.

  2. (Optional) If the NTC is installed on a different host, manually start the NTC service.

    • Log in to the NTC server as the Administrator user.
      NOTE:

      If security hardening has been performed for the Windows operating system, you need to log in to the server as the SWMaster user.

    • Choose Start > All Programs > eSight > eSight Console.
    • In the eSight Console dialog box, click Start.

      When the status of every process is RUNNING and "starting eSight system succeeded" is displayed, the eSight service has been started.

Stopping eSight

This section describes how to stop eSight.

Procedure
  1. Stop the eSight service.

    • Log in to the eSight server as the Administrator user.
      NOTE:

      If security hardening has been performed for the Windows operating system, you need to log in to the server as the SWMaster user.

    • Choose Start > All Programs > eSight > eSight Console.
    • In the eSight Console dialog box, click Stop.

      When the status of every process is STOPPED and "stopping eSight system succeeded." is displayed, the eSight service has been stopped.

  2. (Optional) If the NTC is installed on a different host, manually stop the NTC service.

    • Log in to the NTC server as the Administrator user.
      NOTE:

      If security hardening has been performed for the Windows operating system, you need to log in to the server as the SWMaster user.

    • Choose Start > All Programs > eSight > eSight Console.
    • In the eSight Console dialog box, click Stop.

      When the status of every process is STOPPED and "stopping eSight system succeeded." is displayed, the eSight service has been stopped.

Shutting Down the Database

Before stopping the database, you must stop the eSight service.

Prerequisites

The eSight service has been stopped.

SQL Server

  1. Log in to the SQL Server database server as the Administrator user.
  2. Choose Start > All Programs > Microsoft SQL Server 2012 > SQL Server Configuration Manager.
  3. In the SQL Server Configuration Manager window, select SQL Server Services. Right-click SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) on the right and choose Stop from the shortcut menu.
    NOTE:

    In the step, MSSQLSERVER is the instance name of the SQL Server database. Select the instance name based on the site requirements.

Powering Off the Server Safely

Before shutting down the server, you need to stop the eSight service process and database.

Prerequisites

Before powering off the server, ensure that:

  • The eSight service has been stopped.
  • The database has been stopped.
Procedure
  1. Log in to the eSight server as the Administrator user.

    NOTE:

    If security hardening has been performed for the Windows operating system, you need to log in to the server as the SWMaster user.

  2. Choose Start > Shutdown to shut down the Windows operating system.
  3. Turn off the power supply of the external device and monitor of the server.
