How Do I Check and Modify the Server IP Address Monitored by the Oracle Database?

Question

If the IP address of the eSight server changes, the Oracle database may fail to be connected. How do I check the server IP address monitored by the Oracle database?

Answer
NOTE:
  • This operation supports only the scenario where eSight and the Oracle database are deployed on the same server.
  • If the listening IP address of the Oracle database is 127.0.0.1, do not modify the server IP address listened by the Oracle database.
  • In a local HA system, the new listening IP address is the floating IP address of eSight.
  • In other scenarios, the new listening IP address is the system IP address of eSight.
  1. Log in to the Linux operating system as the oracle user.
  2. Check and modify the listening IP address of the Oracle database.

    1. Open the listener.ora file. In the following example, 10.137.59.87 is the current listening IP address of the Oracle database. Change 10.137.59.87 to a new listening IP address.
      vi /opt/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1/network/admin/listener.ora
      ...

      ESIGHTLISTENER =
        (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
          (DESCRIPTION =
            (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = REGISTER))
            (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 10.137.59.87)(PORT = 31521))
          )
        )

      ...

      Press Esc and enter :wq to save the settings and exit.

    2. Open the tnsnames.ora file. In the following example, 10.137.59.87 is the current listening IP address of the Oracle database. Change 10.137.59.87 to a new listening IP address.
      vi /opt/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1/network/admin/tnsnames.ora
      ESIGHTLINK=(
          DESCRIPTION=(
              ADDRESS_LIST=(
                  ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)
                          (HOST=10.137.59.87)
                          (PORT=31521)
                          )
                      )
                      (CONNECT_DATA=(SERVER=DEDICATED)
                          (SERVICE_NAME=esight)
                      )
                  )

      ...

      Press Esc and enter :wq to save the modification and exit the editing mode.

  3. Run the following commands to restart the listening service for the Oracle database.

    $ lsnrctl stop esightlistener
    $ lsnrctl start esightlistener

How Do I Do If eSight Becomes Faulty After the SQL Server User Password Is Changed Using a Database Tool

Question

After I use a database tool instead of the maintenance tool to change the password for a database user, some problems occur on eSight. For example, I cannot start eSight using the maintenance tool. How do I resolve the problems?

Answer

Do not use database tools other than the maintenance tool to change the password of a database user. If you use a tool other than the maintenance tool to change the database user password, the database connection password of eSight will be different from the existing database password. The following problems may occur:

  • The eSight system cannot be started using the maintenance tool if the password for a database NMS user is changed using a tool other than the maintenance tool.
  • The password for a database NMS user cannot be changed using the maintenance tool if the password for the database administrator is changed using a tool other than the maintenance tool.

When these problems occur, perform the following operations to change the database access password to maintain password consistency. The procedure is as follows:

  1. Choose System > DB Password Management from the main menu of the maintenance tool.
  2. Change the database access password to be the same as the database password. Perform operations based on the problem.

    • eSight fails to be started using the maintenance tool

      In the Database NMS User password area in the DB Password Management window, set parameters listed Table 7-2.

    Table 7-2 Changing the password of a database NMS user

    Parameter

    Description

    Old Password

    NMS user password of the maintenance tool.

    New Password

    Database NMS user password changed using a tool other than the maintenance tool.

    Confirm Password

    Confirmation password. Enter the new password again.

    • Failed to change the database NMS user password using the maintenance tool

      In the Database System Administrator password area in the DB Password Management window, set parameters listed Table 7-3.

    Table 7-3 Changing the password of a database administrator

    Parameter

    Description

    Old Password

    Administrator password of the maintenance tool.

    New Password

    Database administrator password changed using a tool other than the maintenance tool.

    Confirm Password

    Confirmation password. Enter the new password again.

  3. Click Apply.
  4. Restart eSight or change the password of the database NMS user based on the fault.

What Can I Do When the Database Cannot Be Connected During eSight Startup in the Windows

    > cd /d D:\eSight\MySQL\bin

  4. Start the MySQL database.

    > startup.bat

  5. If the message System error 1067 has occurred is displayed, perform the following operations. Otherwise, contact technical support personnel.

    1. Stop the MySQL database.

      > uninstmysqlsvc.bat

    2. Delete all files except folders and the ibdata1 file under the data directory.
    3. Start the MySQL database.
