Configuring the Maximum Server Memory for Microsoft SQL Server 2012 R2

The maximum server memory refers to the maximum memory allocated for the startup and operation of the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2. To ensure that adequate memory is available for the operation of the eSight, you are advised to configure the maximum server memory for the Microsoft SQL Server 2012 R2.

Context

When the Microsoft SQL Server 2012 R2 occupies excessive memory, eSight server may fail to run. To avoid this issue, the administrator must specify the maximum server memory for the Microsoft SQL Server 2012 R2.

NOTE:

You are advised to specify the maximum server memory to one quarter of the total memory on the physical server, because the total memories on different physical servers may vary.

In this example, the maximum server memory for the Microsoft SQL Server 2012 R2 is specified to 4 GB.

Procedure

  1. Press the Windows key+R to open the Run dialog box. Run the Ssms.exe command.

    The Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio window is displayed.

  2. Specify the parameters for the connection to Microsoft SQL Server 2012 R2.

    Figure 8-8 shows the window. For parameter description, see Table 8-7.

    Parameter

    Description

    Server type

    Select Database Engine.

    Server name

    Select the name of the host on which Microsoft SQL Server 2012 R2 is installed.

    Authentication

    Select SQL Server Authentication.

    Login

    Input the sa user or a user with the same permission as the sa user.

    Password

    The password of the database user.

  3. Click Connect.
  4. Right-click the database server node after you have successfully logged in.

    Figure 8-9 shows the window.

  5. Select Properties.

    The Server Properties dialog box is displayed.

  6. Click Memory.

  7. Change the value of Maximum server memory (in MB) to 4096.

  8. Click OK.
