Checking the Database Logs

Maintenance personnel must periodically check the running status of the database.

Reference Standard

No exception affecting the database operation is found in the log files.

Procedure

  1. Check the SQL Server database logs.

    NOTE:

    In a HA system, you need to perform the operations only on the active server. The standby server automatically synchronizes data from the active server.

    The log files of the SQL Server database are stored in SQL Server installation directory\MSSQL\LOG.

  2. Check the Oracle database logs.

    By default, the alert logs of the Oracle 11g database are stored in $ORACLE_BASE/diag/rdbms/db_name/sid/trace/alert*.log. Here, db_name is the database name and sid is the instance name of the database.

    To view the path where the alert log files are stored, perform the following operations:

    1. Log in to the database server as the oracle user and run the following command to connect to the database:

      > sqlplus '/ as sysdba'

    2. Run the following command to view the path where the alert log files are stored:

      SQL> show parameter dump;

      Information similar to the following is displayed. By default, the alert log files are stored in the path specified by background_dump_dest.

Exception Handling

Rectify the exceptions based on the error information recorded in log files. If the exceptions persist, contact Huawei technical support engineers.
