Connecting the Active and Standby Servers

Connecting the Active and Standby Servers

This section describes how to connect the active and standby servers.

Prerequisites

The eSight version and components installed on the active server are the same as those on the standby server.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the active server and run the following command as the root user to view the status of the NMSServer resource:

    NOTE:

If the SUSE Linux operating system has been hardened, log in to eSight as the ossuser user and then switch to the root user.

    # hares -state NMSServer -sys Host name of the active server

If the NMSServer resource is in ONLINE state, go to 7. Otherwise, go to the next step.

  2. Log in to the active and standby servers as the root user and run the following command:

    # hagrp -offline AppService -sys Server host name

    NOTE:

Run the following command to query the AppService resource status. Perform subsequent operations after ensuring that the resource status is displayed as OFFLINE:

    # hagrp -state AppService -sys Server host name

  3. Log in to the active server as the root user.
  4. (Optional) If the local HA system is used, run the following command to ensure that the floating IP address is online:

    # hares -online FloatIP -sys Host name of the active server

  5. Run the following command to bring the mountFileRes resource of the active server online:

    # hares -online mountFileRes -sys Host name of the active server

  6. Run the following commands to start the eSight maintenance tool:

    # su - ossuser

    # cd /opt/eSight/mttools/bin

    # ./start-sysmon-ha.sh

  7. Log in to the eSight maintenance tool of the active server from a client.

    1. Enter https://Server IP address:Port number in the address box and press Enter.
      • When you use HTTPS to log in to the eSight maintenance tool, the default port number is 31945.
      • If the server has multiple IP addresses, enter the IP address selected during eSight server installation in the address box. Otherwise, eSight cannot be used.
    2. On the maintenance tool login page, enter the user name sys and the password, and log in.
      NOTE:

Change the password at the first login. The default password is Changeme123.

  8. Choose HA Management > HA Deployment from the main menu.
  9. Select Join and set Remote System IP and Remote ossuser password.

    NOTE:

Remote ossuser password: password of the ossuser user of the operating system on the standby server.

  10. Click Apply.

In the Confirm dialog box that is displayed, click Yes to connect the active and standby servers. If the success message is displayed, the active and standby servers are connected successfully.

  11. Click Close.
  12. Run the following command as the root user to check the NMSServer resource status:

    # hares -state NMSServer -sys Host name of the active server

If the status of the NMSServer resource is ONLINE, no further action is required. Otherwise, run the following commands as the ossuser user to stop the maintenance tool:

    cd /opt/eSight/mttools/bin

    ./stop-sysmon.sh
