This topic describes the restrictions on using an HA system. Some improper operations lead to HA system failures.

The direction of data synchronization between the primary and secondary servers must be correct. If data is supposed to be synchronized from the primary server to the secondary server but the data synchronization direction is incorrect, data on the primary server will be overwritten and cannot be restored.

Take the server where a client is recently logged in as the source server for data synchronization. You can also force the local server as the primary server to perform data synchronization.

Normally, the AppService and VVRService resource groups on the primary and secondary servers are not frozen. If they are frozen, an HA system fails to protect services or perform active/standby switchover.

During database expansion, you must ensure that the data to be expanded on the primary server is consistent with that on the secondary server; otherwise, the HA system displays a message during data synchronization, indicating a synchronization failure.

An HA system allows data synchronization only when the disk volume size on the primary server is consistent with that on the secondary server.

Manually changing the database password of an HA system is prohibited. Use the Maintenance Tool to change the database password.

The database password is stored in both the eSight database and configuration file. The manual mode leads to incomplete modification; as a result, a database password inconsistency occurs.

Manually changing the IP address and host name of an HA system is prohibited. Use the HA System Config Tool to change the IP address and host name of an HA system.

The DCN between the primary and secondary servers must meet the HA system requirements. If the DCN between primary and secondary servers does not meet the HA system requirements, the DCN may become unstable or the reliability is reduced. Establishing an HA system is not recommended for a DCN that does not meet specific requirements. Disabling the automatic service switchover function for the HA system is recommended.

Deleting folders (including empty folders) in the installation directories of the eSight software, database software, and HA system software is prohibited. If such folders are deleted, the eSight software, database software, and HA system software fail to function properly.

Manually changing the permissions for files or folders (including empty folders) in the installation directories of the eSight software, database software, and HA system software and file permissions is prohibited. If such permissions are changed, the eSight software, database software, and HA system software fail to function properly.

Manually running the script to start or stop the NMS is prohibited. Run the VCS commands to start or stop the NMS.

In the HA system scenario, you need to run the VCS commands to start or stop the NMS.

If the Veritas license is a temporary license or expires, change it within the validity period. Otherwise, the system fails to start or the Veritas software fails to protect services.

  • If the license of Veritas 4.1 or 5.0 expires, the HA system fails to start.
  • If the license of Veritas 5.1 or later expires, the HA system can start, but the protection function is disabled.

The software and hardware configurations, especially the hard disk quantity and size and networking mode, on the primary and secondary servers must be consistent. Otherwise, the HA system fails to synchronize data.
