Collecting eSight Run Logs

Collecting eSight Run Logs

This section describes how to collect run logs when a fault occurs on eSight.

Context

eSight run logs are stored in the eSight installation directory/AppBase/var/iemp/log directory. If a fault is detected, back up all files in this directory for later analysis.

Procedure

  • Windows operating system
  1. Log in to the Windows operating system as a user in the Administrators group. Choose Start > All Programs > eSight > eSight Console.
  2. In the eSight Console dialog box, choose Tools > Fault Collection Tool.
  3. Set the parameters.
    1. Set Time period.
    2. Set Archive password and Confirm password to ensure the security of user data.
    3. Select either By Module or By Scenario.

      For example, if you select By Module, currently installed components are displayed. You can select modules whose logs need to be collected based on the site requirements.

  4. Click Collect. The current GUI is unavailable during data collection. Wait until the current GUI becomes available.
    NOTE:

    You can click Collection package location to obtain the collected fault information.

  • SUSE Linux operating system
    NOTE:

    Log in to the server as the ossuser user.

    This operation requires GUI. If you deploy a physical server, you are advised to log in to the server through the iBMC management network port. If you deploy a VM, you are advised to log in to the server through VNC.

    If the GUI cannot be displayed, run the export DISPLAY command to set the environment variables.

    1. Log in to the operating system as the ossuser user and run the following commands:
      cd eSight installation directory/mttools/tools
      ./maintain.sh
    2. Set the parameters.
      1. Set Time period.
      2. Set Archive password and Confirm password to ensure the security of user data.
      3. Select either By Module or By Scenario.

        For example, if you select By Module, currently installed components are displayed. You can select modules whose logs need to be collected based on the site requirements.

    3. Click Collect. The current GUI is unavailable during data collection. Wait until the current GUI becomes available.
      NOTE:

      You can open eSight installation directory/log to obtain collected fault information.

  • Euler and SUSE Linux operating systems
    1. Log in to the server whose logs need to be collected as the ossuser user.
    2. Perform the following operations to collect server logs:
      1. Run the following commands to set collection parameters:

        es_cli -cmd logcollect -type [module/scene] -passwd <password> -collectDB [true/false] -period <yyyyMMddHHmmss:yyyyMMddHHmmss>

        -type: The options include module (collection by module) and scene (collection by scenario).

        -passwd: password of the compressed package.

        -collectDB: Indicates whether to collect the database.

        -period: collection time range.

      2. Select the components whose data needs to be collected as prompted and press Enter.

        The system starts to collect data. After the collection is complete, the system displays a message indicating that the operation is successful.

      3. After the collection is complete, obtain the collected fault information from eSight installation directory/log.
