Changing the Password of a Database User

Changing the Password of a Database User

You can use the maintenance tool to change the administrator password and eSight user passwords of the databases during routine maintenance, which ensures database user password security. Use the maintenance tool to change the password of a database user. Otherwise, eSight cannot be started or connect to the database after being started.

Prerequisites

  • You have logged in to the maintenance tool. For details, see Logging In to and Out of the Maintenance Tool.
  • Database users are available. Changing passwords fails if database users are unavailable, for example, locked due to password expiry.
NOTE:
  • In an HA scenario, change only the database user password on the active server. The standby server automatically synchronizes the change.
  • In the OMMHA two-node cluster scenario, ensure that alarms ALM-316010197 File Synchronization Failure in the OMMHA System and ALM-316010198 Data Replication Failure in the OMMHA System have been handled.

Context

Table 1 describes the databases and database users. All users in the table are enabled. You do not need to change the password for locked users.

NOTE:

By default, the administrator created for SQL Server is sa. You can change the administrator user name during installation.

commonuser and service database users For details about the service database users, see Database Users.

NOTE:

The password of each service database user must be the same as the password of commonuser. If you change the password of commonuser, eSight automatically synchronizes the new password for the service database users.

Procedure

  1. Choose System > DB Password Management from the main menu
  2. On the DB Password Management page, change the password of a database user.

    1. To ensure user password security, plan user passwords that meet password complexity requirements and change passwords periodically.
    2. If the Gauss database is used, the new password must comply with the following rules:

    - The password must contain 8 to 64 characters.

    - If the password is not placed between single quotation marks ('), it should begin with a letter, number sign (#), or underscore (_).

    - The password cannot be the same as the user name or the reverse of the user name (case-insensitive).

    - The password can contain at least three types of the following:

    • Digits
    • Lowercase letters
    • Uppercase letters
    • Space characters or special characters (For details about the special characters supported by the GaussDB 100, see the special character table. However, the password cannot contain semicolons (;)).

    - If the password contains special characters or space characters other than underscores (_), number symbols (#), and dollar signs ($), the password must be placed between single quotation marks (').

    - The new password must contain at least two different characters from the old password. For example, "abc" and "abd" have only one different character, while "abc" and "ABc" have two different characters.

    - If the password contains the special character $, you must use slashes (\) for escape when connecting to the database using ZSQL. Otherwise, the login fails.
