Example for Typical Backup and Restore Operations on Windows

Example for Typical Backup and Restore Operations on Windows

This section describes the processes and methods for backing up and restoring eSight. After eSight is installed, perform operations in this section to ensure that eSight can be restored to the pre-backup state if it becomes abnormal. The restoration will minimize the impact on services.

Context

NOTE:

After the eSight IP address changes, the original backup files cannot be used. You need to back up data again.

Figure 4-1 shows the procedure for backing up and restoring data.

Figure 4-1 Backup and restoration flowchart

Procedure

  1. Configure an automatic backup policy.

An automatic backup policy must be immediately set after eSight is installed so that the eSight database and configuration files can be backed up in time. The following describes how to back up the eSight database and configuration files to the local server at 00:00 each day, which is only an example.

    1. Choose Backup and Restoration > Backup Policy Setting from the main menu.
    2. On the backup policy setting page, select the Start periodical backup check box and configure information as follows:
      • Set Backup started at to an idle service period, for example, 00:00.
      • Set Backup period to 1 day.
    3. Select Back up to local server and retain the default backup path.
      NOTE:

In this example, the default backup path (eSight installation directory/AppBase/backup) is used. If any other path is used, replace the default path to the actual one in the following operations.

    4. Set Number of backup files.
    5. Click Apply.
    6. Click Yes in the Confirm dialog box.
    NOTE:

After the eSight IP address changes, the original backup files cannot be used. You need to back up data again.

After an automatic backup policy is configured, eSight periodically backs up the database and configuration files to specified directories based on the preset time and period. The ALM-80001 Automatic backup failed alarm is reported if automatic backup fails.

  2. Restore eSight services using backup data if eSight is abnormal.

    1. Perform operations in Manual Restoration and check whether the data is restored successfully.
    2. Check whether eSight services are normal.
      • If yes, eSight services are restored and no further action is required.
      • If no, go to Step 2.3.
    3. Reinstall eSight and use backup data to restore eSight services.

The operating system, database, eSight software version, and eSight installation directory of the server must be the same before and after eSight reinstallation. Otherwise, eSight data restoration is affected.

    1. Log in to the eSight server as the Administrator user.
    1. (Skip this step when remote backup is used.) Back up the index file in the to-be-restored data package in the following paths: eSight installation directory/mttools/etc/sysconf/backup.
    2. (Skip this step when remote backup is used.) Back up the data package to be restored in eSight installation directory/AppBase/backup.
    3. Reinstall eSight.
    4. Stop the eSight process.
      1. Choose System > Start and Stop NMS from the main menu.
      2. Click in the Operation column of eSight.
      3. (Skip this step when remote backup is used.) Copy the backed up eSight data package and index file to the following paths on the eSight server: eSight installation directory/AppBase/backup and eSight installation directory/mttools/etc/sysconf/backup.
      4. Log in to the maintenance tool, select a local server file or remote server file, and manually restore data. For details, see Manual Restoration.
      5. Start the eSight process. For details, see "Starting and Stopping the eSight Process Using the Maintenance Tool."
    5. Check whether eSight services are normal.

If eSight services are abnormal, collect processing information and contact Huawei technical support.
