Basic Concepts

Basic Concepts

Before using QoS, you must understand the basic concepts of the QoS service, such as traffic classifier, traffic behavior, and traffic policy. This helps you to use the QoS management function more rapidly and accurately.

Table 12-75 QoS basic concepts

Traffic classifier

Classifies packets with the same features into one category based on certain rules and provides the same QoS service for packets of the same category, implementing differentiated services for different types of packets.

Traffic behavior

Defines QoS actions for packets, such as priority scheduling, drop policy, and traffic restriction.

Traffic policy

Associates traffic classifier with traffic behavior to generate complete QoS policies. In this way, different traffic behaviors can be performed for different traffic classifiers.
