eSight Fails to Manage Terminals

eSight fails to manage terminals. This topic describes how to troubleshoot the failure.

Principles

eSight calculates which MAC addresses are for terminals and to which access devices should the terminals connect based on the MAC forwarding table. eSight also collects the ARP information of all the managed devices and queries the management IP addresses of terminals based on the ARP table.

Common Causes
  • Access devices for terminals are not added to eSight for management.
  • The corresponding terminal information is not in the MAC forwarding table of access devices.
  • The corresponding terminal information is not in the ARP table of access devices.
Procedure
  1. Check whether access devices for terminals are added to eSight for management.

If access devices (for example access switches) for terminals are not added to eSight and the ARP information is not complete, all terminals under the access devices cannot be discovered.

Choose Resource > Network > Equipment > Network Device from the main menu, and check whether the access device exists in the device list.

If not, add the access devices and ensure that they can be managed on eSight.

Check whether SNMP configurations on eSight and the device are the same. Pay attention to the read/write permissions and MIB view to ensure that the SNMP connectivity test in the NE Manager succeeds.

If SNMP connection times out, increase the timeout interval for SNMP connection as required.

  2. Check whether the corresponding terminal information is in the MAC forwarding table of access devices.

Log in to an access device. Run the display mac-address command to check whether the corresponding terminal information exists.

If not, contact network engineers to check the network.

If yes, collect MIB information and check whether data in the MIB table is the same as that in the command output. If the data in the MIB table is correct, check whether data in the eSight database is stored normally. For details, contact Huawei engineers.

  3. Check whether the corresponding terminal information is in the ARP table of access devices.

Log in to an access device. Run the display arp all command to check whether the corresponding terminal information exists.

If not, contact network engineers to check the network.

If yes, collect MIB information and check whether data in the MIB table is the same as that in the command output. If the data in the MIB table is correct, check whether data in the eSight database is stored normally. For details, contact Huawei engineers.

  4. If the problem persists, contact Huawei technical support personnel.
Summary
  1. Ensure that access devices for terminals are added to eSight for management.
  2. Log in to an access device. Run the display mac-address command to check whether the corresponding terminal information exists.
  3. Log in to an access device. Run the display arp all command to check whether the corresponding terminal information exists.
