What Do I Do When eSight Cannot Receive Device Alarms After the IPv6 Protocol Stack Is Installed on SUSE Linux

Symptom

In the Linux operating system, eSight cannot receive device alarms after the IPv6 protocol stack is installed.

Possible Causes

Considering the user data security on Linux, eSight maps port 162 that receives device alarms to port 10162, which is not supported in the kernel before Linux 3.7.0. The current Linux version is 2.6.32. Therefore, eSight cannot receive device alarms.

To solve this problem, set the port that receives device alarms to port 10162.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the device using Telnet or STelnet.
  2. Run the following commands to reconfigure the port for eSight to receive device alarms:

    snmp-agent target-host trap ipv6 address udp-domain 3005::3 udp-port 10162 params securityname public v2c
    NOTE:
    • 3005::3 is the IPv6 address of the eSight server.
    • 10162 is the port for eSight to receive device alarms.

  3. Run the following command to check whether the configuration is correct:

    display snmp-agent target-host
