Understanding Various Protocols

Protocol

Description

SOAP

Simple Object Access Protocol, a type of protocol that is lightweight, simple, and XML-based. It is designed to exchange structured information at web.

HTTPS

Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure. It is an HTTP protocol that runs on top of Transport Layer Security (TLS) and Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) for secured transactions. It is used to establish a reliable channel for encrypted communication and secure identification of a network web server. For details, see RFC2818.

SSH

Secure Shell (SSH) is a set of standards and an associated network protocol that allows establishing a secure channel between a local computer and a remote computer. The SSH feature protects information and provides powerful authentication functions for a network when a user logs in to the network through an insecure network. It prevents the network from IP address spoofing and simple passwords from being captured.
