Power-On and Power-Off Management

eSight provides a unified platform for powering on and off devices remotely, allowing you to power on and off devices by one click. You can power on/off a single device, batch power on/off devices, create instant tasks, create periodic tasks, and adjust energy policies based on the device operating time.

Device Management

Viewing the Device List

Describes how to view the device list.

Prerequisites

eSight is communicating correctly with the devices.

Context

You can view a list of devices that can be powered on or off. Models of the devices that can be listed include:

Power-off:

  • OceanStor18000 (V1R1C00, V1R1C10, V1R1C20, V1R1C30)
  • OceanStor 18500 V3/OceanStor 18800 V3 ( V3R3C00, V3R3C10, V3R3C20, V300R006)
  • S5600T (V1R5C02 and V1R5C30)
  • OceanStor 2800 V5/5300 V5/5500 V5/5500 V5 Elite/5600 V5/5800 V5/6800 V5/18500 V5/18800 V5/5300F V5/5500F V5/5600F V5/5800F V5/6800F V5/18500F V5/18800F V5(V500R007C00)

Power-on/off:

OceanStor 9000 (V1R1C30, V3R5C00, V3R6C00)

Procedure

  1. Choose Resource > Common from the menu bar.

  2. In the navigation tree, click Power-On and Power-Off Management > Device List.

    A list is displayed showing the devices that can be powered on/off.

  3. In the search box in the upper right part, enter a device name or keyword to search for a desired device.

    You can search for devices by name, IP address, NE status, type, and model.

    NOTE:

    Storage devices do not support power supply status query.

  4. Click the device name to view device details.

Follow-up Procedure

You can manually power on/off a device listed in the device list, or batch power on/off multiple devices.

Manually Powering On or Off Devices

Describes how to manually power on/off devices.

Prerequisites

  • eSight is communicating correctly with the devices.
  • The prerequisites for powering on and off the OceanStor9000 (V100R001C30, V300R005C00 and V300R006C00):

Context

Manual power-on/off applies to scenarios that has a small number of devices. You can power on/off devices by one click, without the need to create a batch task.

  • Concurrent powering on/off a large number of devices will lead to an overcurrent, damaging power supply lines or devices. You are advised to reduce the number of devices to be concurrently powered on/off each time.
  • Powering off devices may interrupt services. Perform this operation during off-peak hours.

Procedure

  1. Choose Resource > Common from the menu bar.

  2. In the navigation tree, click Power-On and Power-Off Management > Device List.

    A list is displayed showing the devices that can be powered on/off.

  3. In the search box in the upper right part, enter a device name or keyword to search for a desired device.

    You can search for devices by name, IP address, NE status, type, and model.

    NOTE:

    Storage devices do not support power supply status query.

  4. In the Operate column, click the power-on/off icon to manually power on/off devices.

    • Click to power on devices.
    • Click to power off devices.

  5. Click OK.

    The Re-authenticate dialog box is displayed.

  6. Enter the password of the current user that logs in to eSight, click OK.

Task Management

Creating a Task

Describes how to create a task.

Prerequisites

  • eSight is communicating correctly with the devices.
  • The prerequisites for powering on and off the OceanStor9000 (V100R001C30, V300R005C00, V300R006C00):

Context

When you need to power on/off a large number of devices, you can create a power-on/off task and set a power-on/off policy to batch power on/off the devices. An instant task will be executed instantly after being triggered. A periodic task will be executed at the specified point in time, and can be executed every week, every month, and every year.

  • Concurrent powering on/off a large number of devices will lead to an overcurrent, damaging power supply lines or devices. You are advised to reduce the number of devices to be concurrently powered on/off each time.
  • Powering off devices may interrupt services. Perform this operation during off-peak hours.

Procedure

  1. Choose Resource > Common from the menu bar.

  2. In the navigation tree, click Power-On and Power-Off Management > Task Management.

    A priority ranges from 1 to 10, with 1 as the highest. Devices are powered on/off in sequence according to their priorities, and those of the highest priorities are powered on/off first.

    For example, if the power-on/off interval is set to 60 seconds and the priorities for devices 1, 2, and 3 are set to 1, 2, and 4, device 1 is powered off first, device 2 is powered off 60 seconds later, and device 3 is powered off 120 seconds later.

  9. Click Next.
  10. Select a deployment mode:

    • Deploy now: Create an instant task and execute it immediately.
    • Policy deployment: Create a periodic task and execute it at the specified point in time once, every day, every week, every month, and every year.

  11. Click Next.

    Check configuration parameters.

  12. Click Finish.

    A message box is displayed.

  13. Click OK.

    The Re-authenticate dialog box is displayed.

  14. Enter the password of the current user that logs in to eSight, click OK.

Modifying a Task

Describes how to modify a task.

Context

You can modify existing power-on/off tasks.

Procedure

  1. Choose Resource > Common from the menu bar.

  2. In the navigation tree, click Power-On and Power-Off Management > Task Management.

    A list is displayed showing all power-on/off tasks.

  3. In the search box in the upper right part, enter a device name or keyword to search for a desired device.

    You can search for devices by name and result.

  4. In the operation column, click.

    The page for modifying tasks is displayed.

  5. Change task parameters.

Viewing or Suspending or Resuming or Deleting a Task

Describes how to view/suspend/resume/delete a task.

Prerequisites

At least one power-on/off task has been created.

Context

You can view details about the power-on/off task in the task management list, and batch delete tasks that are on longer used. You can also suspend an ongoing power-on/off task and resume it later.

Procedure

  1. Choose Resource > Common from the menu bar.

  2. In the navigation tree, click Power-On and Power-Off Management > Task Management.

    A list is displayed showing all power-on/off tasks.

  3. In the search box in the upper right part, enter a device name or keyword to search for a desired device.

    You can search for devices by name and result.

  4. Click the name of a task to view the task details.
  5. If you want to delete a task, select the task and click Delete.

    A message box is displayed.

  6. Click OK.

    The task is deleted.

  7. If you want to suspend a task, select the task and click Suspend.

    A message box is displayed.

  8. Click OK.

    The Re-authenticate dialog box is displayed.

  9. Enter the password of the current user that logs in to eSight, click OK.

    The status of the task becomes Suspended.

  10. If you want to resume a suspended task, select the device and click Resume.

Typical Application Scenarios

Batch Scheduled Power-On and Power-Off

To batch power on or off devices at a specific point in time, create a power-on or power-ff task and set a time point for the task. This method reduces manpower and power costs.

Context

A company has a large number of storage devices. To reduce power cost, the company needs to power off the storage devices at 19:00 and power on the storage devices at 08:00 every day.

Procedure

  • Create a scheduled power-off task.
    1. On the menu bar, choose Resource > Common.
    2. In the navigation tree, click Power-On and Power-Off Management > Task Management.

      The task management page is displayed.

    3. Click Create.
    4. Fill in basic task information.
      • Name: electrify_down
      • Description: power-off at 19:00 every day
    5. Click Next.
    6. Set the power policy to power off.
    7. Click Next.
    8. Select devices in the list and set the power-off priority and interval.
    9. Click Next.
    10. Set the deployment mode to Policy deployment.
    11. Set the power-off time to 19:00 and select every day.
    12. Click Next.

      Check configuration parameters.

    13. Click Finish.

      A message box is displayed.

    14. Click OK.

      The Re-authenticate dialog box is displayed.

    15. Enter the password of the current user that logs in to eSight, click OK.

      The task is created.

  • Manage tasks.

    You can manage created power-on and power-off tasks. For example, if a company does not need to power on and off devices as usual during holidays, the company can suspend the power-on and power-off tasks during holidays and resume the tasks after the holidays end. Detailed steps are as follows:

    Before a holiday, suspend power-on and power-off tasks.

    1. On the menu bar, choose Resource > Common.
    2. In the navigation tree, click Power-On and Power-Off Management > Task Management.

      The task management page is displayed.

    3. In the search box in the upper right part, enter a task name or keyword to search for a desired task.
    4. Click the task name to view task details.
    5. Select the task and click Suspend.

      A message box is displayed.

    6. Click OK.

      The Re-authenticate dialog box is displayed.

    7. Enter the password of the current user that logs in to eSight, click OK.

      The task is created.

      After the holiday ends, resume the power-on and power-off tasks.

    8. On the menu bar, choose Resource > Common.
    9. In the navigation tree, click Power-On and Power-Off Management > Task Management.

      The task management page is displayed.

    10. In the search box in the upper right part, enter a task name or keyword to search for a desired task.
    11. Click the task name to view task details.
    12. Select the task and click Resume.

      A message box is displayed.

    13. Click OK.

      The Re-authenticate dialog box is displayed.

    14. Enter the password of the current user that logs in to eSight, click OK.

      The task is created.
