Example for Deploying and Configuring Batch Terminals Through Automatic Terminal Deployment

Example for Deploying and Configuring Batch Terminals Through Automatic Terminal Deployment

During onsite deployment, a large number of terminals need to be managed. The automatic terminal deployment function is recommended to configure the version files, configuration files, and number resources for the terminals when they are added to eSight for the first time. After that, users do not need to manually configure and upgrade the terminals, improving deployment efficiency.

Applicable Products and Versions

eSight V300R003C10 or later versions

Networking Requirements

An enterprise network has been established and terminals have been installed. The enterprise wants to use eSight to manage all the terminals on the campus network.

The enterprise has the following requirements:

  • Terminals need to be deployed based on network planning to facilitate grouping of the terminals.
  • The network connectivity between the terminals and eSight must be ensured.

Requirement Analysis

After terminals are deployed on the site network, the terminals need to be divided into different groups, upgraded to planned configuration files and version files, and associated with planned terminal numbers.

  • Terminal grouping: Properly group the terminals by the IP address segment based on the site deployment plan and future expansion requirements.
  • Configuration file and version file: Prepare in advance the configuration files and version files for all terminal models to be deployed on the site network.
  • Terminal number: Terminal numbers need to be delivered to the terminals along with the configuration files. Therefore, the terminal groups must be associated with configuration files to implement automatic number allocation.

Configuration Roadmap

  1. Manage terminal number resources.
  2. Create a terminal group by the IP address segment.
  3. Create configuration files for the terminals.
  4. Create version files for the terminals.
  5. Automatically deploy the terminals.
  6. Set the ACS address for connecting the terminals to eSight.
  7. Power on the terminals.

Prerequisites

  • You have obtained the operation rights for Access Resource and Terminal Device Management.
  • You have obtained the target version files and configuration files for the terminals to be upgraded.

Procedure

  1. Manage terminal number resources.

    1. Choose Resource > Collaboration Resource from the main menu.
    2. In the navigation tree on the left, choose Terminal Device Management > System Configuration.
    3. In the Number Allocation area, set terminal number allocation parameters.

Set Switch of Number Allocation to ON, and set Type of dispatch Number to eSight dispatch Number, and select MAC Address.

    4. Click OK.
    5. In the navigation tree on the left, choose Terminal Device Management > Resource Management > Terminal Number.
    6. Download the template and enter and save parameters based on the instructions in the template.

    7. Click Import, select the template, and click OK.

  2. Create a terminal group by the IP address segment.

    1. In the navigation tree on the left, choose Terminal Device Management > Resource Management > Group Management.
    2. Click Create and set parameters for the grouping by the IP address segment.

    3. Click Confirm.

  3. Create configuration files for the terminals.

    1. In the navigation tree on the left, choose Terminal Device Management > Deployment Management > Configuration File and click File Template Manager.

    2. Click Upload to set template parameters.

    3. Click OK.

The configuration file template for 7910 IP phones is displayed on eSight.

    4. In the navigation tree on the left, choose Terminal Device Management > Deployment Management > Configuration File.
    5. Click Create and set Basic Information.

For detailed parameter description, see the Configuration File Parameter Description of 7910 IP phones.

To enable automatic number allocation for 7910 IP phones, set Configuring Policy to Full; otherwise, automatic number allocation does not take effect.

    6. Confirm that parameters in the configuration file are correct and click OK.

  4. Create version files for the terminals.

    1. In the navigation tree on the left, choose Terminal Device Management > Deployment Management > Version File.
    2. Click Upload and set version file parameters.

    3. Click OK.

  5. Automatically deploy the terminals.

    1. In the navigation tree on the left, choose Terminal Device Management > Deployment Management > Automatic Deployment.
    2. Click in the Associate Configuration File column next to the IP address segment-based terminal group to be deployed and select the configuration files for 7910 IP phones created in the previous step.

    3. Click in the Associate Version File column next to the IP address segment-based terminal group to be deployed and select the version files for 7910 IP phones created in the previous step.

    4. Click in the Allocated Number Segment column to specify the number segment to be allocated.

  6. Set the ACS address for connecting the terminals to eSight.

Terminals can parse acs.address in the DHCP Option 246 field to obtain the eSight IP address.

    • If the DHCP server is installed on Windows Server 2008, set String value of the DHCP Option 246 field to acs.address=https://ACS server address:port number/tr069/services/acs.

In this example, the value is acs.address=https://10.137.59.86:8444/tr069/services/acs.

    • If a switch is used to serve as the DHCP server, set String value of the DHCP Option 246 field to acs.address=https://ACS server address:port number/tr069/services/acs.

In this example, the value is acs.address=https://10.137.59.86:8444/tr069/services/acs.

  7. After the previous operations are complete, power on the terminals.

After the terminals are powered on, they are added to the corresponding terminal group automatically, and the configuration files, version files, and terminal numbers are configured for them.

Verification

Use a 7910 IP phone to verify the configuration. Power on the 7910 IP phone and check whether eSight creates an automatic deployment task.

  1. In the navigation tree on the left, choose Terminal Device Management > Deployment Management > Automatic Deployment. Click the Task View tab.

  2. In the navigation tree on the left, choose Terminal Device Management > Resource Management > Terminal Resource.

  3. In the navigation tree on the left, choose Terminal Device Management > Resource Management > Terminal Number.
