When Will the Paths Between Hosts and Storage Systems Be Displayed in a Cloud Chart in the Host Path Diagram

Question

When hosts are mapped to storage systems, the paths are clearly displayed between the hosts and storage systems in the host path diagram. When only hosts and storage systems are displayed and the paths are displayed as a cloud chart, the following may occur.

Answer

  • Switches that connect hosts to storage systems are not connected to eSight, so eSight cannot obtain the switch information.
  • Initiators are not added to logical hosts, and these hosts belong to the default host group to which LUNs have been mapped. eSight cannot match initiators and therefore cannot display accurate paths.

How Can I Manually Install the lftp Tool of the Agent Software Package

Question

The lftp tool must be used to remotely download the new HostAgent installation package from the eSight during agent upgrade. For this reason, check and install the lftp tool before upgrading an agent.

Answer

  1. Check whether the lftp tool has been installed.

Run the rpm –qa | grep lftp command to check whether the lftp tool has been installed.

If the tool has not been installed, the following information is displayed:

  2. Obtain the lftp software package from the ISO file of the operating system or the lftp official website.
  3. Run the rpm –ivh *.rpm command to install the lftp software package, where * indicates the package name,

    for example, rpm -ivh lftp-4.3.3-1.el4.rfx.x86_64.rpm.

  4. Start the agent upgrade after the tool is installed.

Failures in Discovering Windows Hosts in Single-Network-Adapter, Multi-IP-Addres Scenarios

This chapter describes the Windows host function. If the current version is V300R010C00SPC500, this function is not supported. If a patch version later than V300R010C00SPC500 is installed on V300R010C00SPC500, this function is not supported.

Symptom

A Windows host is configured with a single network adapter. Multiple network segment IP addresses are configured on the network adapter. The host can be pinged on the NMS but fails to be discovered on the NMS.

Possible Causes

When multiple network segment IP addresses are configured, the Windows operating system automatically adds routes based on its own algorithm. The automatically generated IP route may send all the packets for communication between the host and the NMS to the IP address of another network segment. As a result, the host fails to be discovered.

Fault Diagnosis

Add a static route to specify the default gateway of the next hop for the message packets in different network segments.

Procedure

  1. The following uses the IP address 192.168.187.150 as an example to describe how to add the default gateway for the communication between the host and the NMS, as shown in Figure 10-50.

Figure 10-50 Adding the default IP gateway for communicating with the NMS

  2. Access the CLI serial port and run the route delete command to delete the dynamic route of the network segment that communicates with the NMS from the dynamic routing table, as shown in Figure 10-51.

How Do I Do If Some Host Data Fails to Be Collected When the Collection Period Is Short

This chapter describes the Windows host function. If the current version is V300R010C00SPC500, this function is not supported. If a patch version later than V300R010C00SPC500 is installed on V300R010C00SPC500, this function is not supported.

Symptom

When the collection period is short, some host data fails to be collected.

Possible Causes

The configured collection period does not meet the requirements.

Fault Diagnosis

None

Procedure

  1. Set the host performance collection task based on the following table.

    Scenario

    Host Quantity

    Collection Period

    High configuration

    • CPU: 8-core, 2.5 GHz or higher
    • Memory: 32 GB or larger

    1000 ≤ Host quantity ≤ 2000

    One hour or longer

    500 ≤ Host quantity < 1000

    30 minutes or longer

    Host quantity < 500

    15 minutes or longer

    Standard configuration

    • CPU: 4-core, 2.5 GHz or higher
    • Memory: 8 GB or higher

    200 ≤ Host quantity < 500

    30 minutes or longer

    Host quantity < 200

    15 minutes or longer

    NOTE:

The Windows operating system does not support collection of performance statistics of original network ports when network ports are bound. Bond ports do not support pps indicators.

How Do I Do If Hosts Fail to Be Discovered in Agent Mode

This chapter describes the Windows host function. If the current version is V300R010C00SPC500, this function is not supported. If a patch version later than V300R010C00SPC500 is installed on V300R010C00SPC500, this function is not supported.

Symptom

When eSight discovers hosts in agent mode, a message is displayed, indicating that the hosts fail to be discovered.

Possible Causes

The host time is not the current time or is earlier than the certificate generation time (2014-07-18). As a result, certificate authentication fails when eSight communicates with the host using HTTPS.

Fault Diagnosis

Log in to the host and check whether the host time is the current time.

  • In the Windows operating system, open the command line window and run the date command after login to check the current time of the host.
  • In the Linux operating system, run the date command after login to check the current time of the host.

Procedure

  1. Set the host time in the Windows operating system. On the CLI, run the date command, enter the current time in the correct format, and press Enter. Set the host time in the Linux operating system. Run the date -s year/month/day command to change the host time.

Failed to Upgrade an Agent

Symptom

An agent is installed on a host that runs Linux. When the agent is upgraded, the system prompts a message:

Failed to download new package.

Possible Causes

The lftp software is not installed or incorrectly installed.

Fault Diagnosis

Log in to the Linux host where the agent is deployed, run the following commands to check whether the lftp software is installed: rpm -qa | grep lftp.

NOTE:

The lftp software is uninstalled in the Linux host if the interface display is null.

Procedure

  1. Install the lftp software that is compatible with the current operating system.
