Adding Resources

Adding Resources

eSight provides automatic discovery, batch import, and single addition methods to add resources. Users can manage added resources on eSight.

Prerequisites

  • You have the operation rights for Access Resource and Configure Protocol Template.
  • The appropriate resource manager has been installed.

Procedure

  1. Creating a subnet.

You need to plan and create subnets before adding devices, and classify the devices to the subnets.

    NOTE:
    • You can create lower-level subnets in a subnet.
    • You can move devices to a newly created subnet by referring to Adjusting Resources.
    • It is recommended that a subnet consist of a maximum of 10 layers to prevent performance problems.
    • It is recommended that a subnet contain a maximum of 500 devices.

eSight divides a network into several subnets by device or application. You are advised not to manage devices or applications across subnets.

    Subnet Type

    Navigation Path

    Device or Application

    Default Subnet

    1. Choose Resource > Common from the main menu.
    2. Choose Add Resource > Add Subnet in the navigation area on the left.

Network devices, IT storage devices, FC switches, hosts, computing devices, and collaboration management devices and applications.

    NOTE:

Of collaboration management devices and applications, do not manage IP phones, CC solution applications, UC solution applications and IVS solution applications in the default subnet.

    CC Subnet

This subnet consists of CC applications.

    UC Subnet

This subnet consists of UC applications, including MAA, MeetingMS, AppAgent, BMU, UMServer, and eServer.

  2. Configuring the protocol template.

You can configure frequently used protocol parameters as a template so that you can use a predefined parameter template for subsequently connected devices. This improves the efficiency.

    Description

    SNMP protocol template

    1. Choose Resource > Common from the main menu.
    2. In the navigation tree on the left, choose Add Resource > Protocol Template > SNMP Protocol Template.

eSight offers the following default SNMP templates:

    • SNMPv1: DefaultSNMPV1
    • SNMPv2c: DefaultSNMPV2c
    • SNMPv3: DefaultSNMPV3
    NOTE:
    • SNMPv1 and SNMPv2c protocols have security risks. SNMPv3 is recommended.
    • The complexity of the authentication password complexity for the default SNMP template is low. It is recommended that you create an SNMP template based on the site requirements instead of directly using the default SNMP template.
    NOTE:

Default SNMP templates cannot be modified or deleted.

For default SNMPv1 and SNMPv2c templates, the read community name is public, and the write community name is private.

The authentication protocol and proprietary protocol for the default SNMPv3 template are both None.

    Telnet protocol template

    1. Choose Resource > Common from the main menu.
    2. In the navigation tree on the left, choose Protocol Template > Telnet Protocol Template.

This function helps remotely log in to and manage the eSight server.

    NOTE:
    • Telnet parameters configured on eSight must be the same as those on devices.
    • The Telnet protocol has security risks. STelnet is recommended.

    Netconf protocol template

    1. Choose Resource > Common from the main menu.
    2. In the navigation tree on the left, choose Protocol Template > Netconf Protocol Template.

When Netconf-capable CE switches use the same Netconf protocol parameters, you can create a Netconf protocol template to set Netconf protocol parameters for CE switches in a batch.

  3. Adding resources.

eSight provides automatic discovery, batch import, and single addition methods to add resources.

    • Automatic discovery: Use this function to add devices within a specific IP segment to eSight in batches.
    NOTE:

eSight provides three automatic device discovery modes by network segment, by ARP, and by router.
