This topic provides two typical scenarios as an example to show administrators how to use eSight server configuration and deployment functions.

Deploying OSs on NEs in Batches

This example shows how to use eSight to deploy operating systems (OSs) on network elements (NEs) in batches.

Prerequisites
Context

A network carrier has purchased a batch of servers and needs to install OSs on each of the servers. It is labor-intensive, error-prone, and time-consuming to install and configure OSs individually for each of the servers, greatly affecting the carrier's services. To resolve this problem efficiently, users can eSight to deploy OSs for the servers in batches. Figure 9-9 shows the operation process.

  1. Upload the software source.

    1. On the menu bar, choose Resource > Server.

    2. In the navigation tree, choose Configuration & Deployment > Software Source Management.

    3. Click Add.
    4. Configure the software source.

    5. Click OK.

  2. Create a deployment template.

    1. On the menu bar, choose Resource > Server.

    2. In the navigation tree, choose Configuration & Deployment > Template Management.
    3. Click Create Template.
    4. Set Template type to OS template.
    5. Configure the OS template.

      The Administrator password parameter indicates the administrator password used for logging in to the OS. If Administrator password is set to Huawei@123, the password of the root user is Huawei@123.

    6. Click OK.

  3. Create a deployment task.

    NOTE:

    In the function pane, you can click corresponding to the OS template OS_Linux to quickly create a deployment task.

    1. On the menu bar, choose Resource > Server.

    2. In the navigation tree, choose Configuration & Deployment > Task Management.
    3. Click Create.
    4. Configure basic task information.

    5. Click Next.
    6. Select the existing OS template OS_Linux.

    7. Click Next.
    8. Select servers on which an OS needs to be deployed.

    9. Click Next.
    10. Set Mode to Policy deployment, Start time to 2017-06-20 23:00:00, and Frequency to Once.

      If Frequency is set to Daily, Weekly, Monthly, or Yearly, eSight automatically reinstalls the OS according to the frequency specified, which will cause data loss.

    11. Click Next.

    12. Click Finish.

    13. Select I have read the warning message carefully and click OK.
    14. View the batch OS deployment result.

      After the deployment task is complete, if the value of Task Execution is Succeeded, the task is successful.

Configuring RAID Controller Cards on NEs in Batches

This example shows how to use eSight to configure RAID controller cards on network elements (NEs) in batches.

Prerequisites

Servers for which RAID controller cards need to be configured have been added to eSight.

Context

A network carrier has purchased a batch of servers and has installed OSs on each of the servers. Now, the carrier needs to configure RAID controller cards for the servers. It is labor-intensive, error-prone, and time-consuming to re-plan or re-configure management IP addresses individually, greatly affecting the carrier's services. To resolve this problem efficiently, users can use eSight to configure RAID controller cards for the servers in batches. Figure 9-10 shows the operation process.

It is labor-intensive, error-prone, and time-consuming to re-plan or re-configure management IP addresses individually, greatly affecting the carrier's services. To resolve this problem efficiently, users can use eSight to configure RAID controller cards for the servers in batches. Figure 9-11 shows the operation process.
