Manually Deploying Terminals

After version files and configuration files for terminals are uploaded to eSight, you can use the manual deployment function of eSight to upgrade the version files and configuration files in batches.

Prerequisites

Context

By default, eSight manages IP phones in non-NAT mode. When eSight manages IP phones in NAT mode, it can only upgrade eSpace 79 and eSpace 89 series IP phones. eSight supports the upgrade of the main programs of eSpace 68 series, eSpace 78 series, eSpace 8850, and eSpace 89 series IP phones, and the upgrade of the main programs, language packages, certificates, signal tones, wallpapers, and ringtones of eSpace 79 series IP phones.

The upgrade will result in about a 5-minute service interruption. The communication between eSight and the terminal will also be interrupted for about 5 minutes.

Ensure the power supply and network connection during the upgrade. If power failure or network disconnection occurs during the upgrade, the upgrade may fail.

Procedure

  1. Choose Resource > Collaboration Resource from the main menu.
  2. In the navigation tree on the left, choose Terminal Device Management > Deployment Management > Manual Deployment.
  3. Click Create Task and set related parameters.

    • Enter a task name in Task Name.
    • Determine whether to select Scheduled Task based on the site requirements.

  4. Click Next, and then click Add. In the Select Resource dialog box, select the terminal to be upgraded or restarted, and click Confirm.

    NOTE:
    • Default groups are displayed on the left of the Select Resource dialog box. You can click a group to go to the corresponding subgroup. In the subgroup list, you can click to return to the upper-level group.
    • Available resources are displayed on the right of the resource selection dialog box. You can click Display Group or Display Terminal to display groups or terminals in the current group in the list of available resources.

  5. After selecting the terminals that you want to upgrade or restart, click Next and set related parameters.

    • Under Select Task Type, select the task type. If Upgrade is selected, you also need to specify the upgrade type and target file. If Reboot is selected, go to the next step.
    • In Select Upgrade Type, select the program type (for example, Main Firmware) that you want to upgrade.

      If Select Upgrade Type is set to Number, select Configuration File, enable the number allocation function in System Settings, and set Type of dispatch Number to eSight dispatch Number.

    • In Version file Upgrade, select the required version file for the model of terminals to be upgraded.

      Only version files that have been uploaded to the file server are available here.

    • In the Update Configuration File area, select a configuration file that you have uploaded to the file server. For details, see Managing Configuration Files.
    NOTE:

    By default, eSight manages IP phones in non-NAT mode. When eSight manages IP phones in NAT mode, it cannot deliver version files and configuration files simultaneously.

  6. Click Next and check parameter settings.
  7. After verifying the parameter settings, click Confirm.

    The system returns to the Manual Deployment page. If you can find the new upgrade management task, the operation is successful.

  8. Open the new upgrade management task and view the upgrade status of the terminal.

Troubleshooting

Table 14-4 describes the solution to the terminal upgrade failure.

Failed to upgrade the software.

  1. Choose Resource > Collaboration Resource from the main menu. In the navigation tree, choose Terminal Device Management > Resource Management > Terminal Resource. Check the connection status in the management object list.

    If a terminal is not online, select the terminal, click Refresh, and check whether the Connection value of the terminal can be changed to Online. If the terminal is still offline, modify the configurations and ensure that the terminal is online. Then re-upgrade the terminal.

  2. If the device is still offline, maybe the network is abnormal. Run the ping command on the eSight server which associates with the media gateway when the device connects to the eSight to check the connection between the device and the eSight. If the connection is abnormal, connect the device to the eSight correctly.
  3. Check whether the CPE user name and password configured on the terminal are the same as the user name and password that are configured on eSight when adding the terminal to eSight. If they are different, see Setting Terminal Protocol Parameters to correct the settings on the terminal.
