Connecting to a Third-Party System Using SNMP

The SNMP NBI of the eSight receives and responds to requests from the third-party system over SNMP. When an alarm occurs, the NBI sends a real-time alarm trap to the third-party system. The SNMP NBI of the eSight receives and responds to requests from the third-party system over SNMP. When an alarm occurs, the NBI sends a real-time alarm trap to the third-party system.

Prerequisites

  • You have negotiated with the third-party system for the IP address and port of the SNMP server.
  • You have obtained the IP address and SNMP parameters of the third-party system.
  • You have the operation rights for System Integration Parameter Settings.
  • On the Local System Settings page, the parameters in the SNMP Interface area have been configured.

Procedure

  1. Choose System > System Settings > Northbound Integration from the main menu.
  2. Choose Third-party System Settings from the navigation tree and click Create.
  3. In the Third-party System area, set the IP address of the third-party system. Select SNMP for Protocol type.
  4. In the SNMP Parameters area, set parameters based on the obtained third-party system parameters.
    NOTE:

    The authentication protocol, privacy protocol, and Trap transmission mode affect all third-party systems. You can click SNMP global parameter dialog box to set these parameters as required.

    • Authentication protocol: indicates a protocol used for message verification. You need to set the authentication password, including SHA and MD5. SHA is recommended.
    • Privacy protocol: indicates an encryption protocol used for data encapsulation. You need to set the encryption password, including DES and AES. AES is recommended.
    • Trap transmission mode: indicates the working mode of notification reported by a third-party system, including Trap mechanism and Inform mechanism.
    • You are advised to set Authentication password and Encryption password to different values.
  5. Click OK.

    The GUI provides some basic interworking parameters. For more parameter configuration, see Self-Service Integration Guide.

  6. Set alarm filtering parameters to mask or report the eSight alarms that meet the filter criteria.

    Choose Alarm Filter Settings from the navigation tree. Set filtering parameters and click Apply.

    NOTE:
    • If you set the alarm filtering mode to Mask and leave the alarm filter criteria blank, all alarms will be reported.
    • If you set the alarm filtering mode to Report and leave the alarm filter criteria blank, all alarms will be masked.
