Monitoring Voice Quality

Voice quality management allows you to monitor the voice quality of IP phones that are connected to eSight, analyze their voice quality data, diagnose faulty IP phones, and rectify faults. eSight monitors the voice quality of IP phones and generates an alarm when the voice quality value exceeds the alarm threshold.

Context

  • eSight can monitor devices including eSpace 7910, eSpace 7950, and eSpace 8950.
  • The IP phone can support a maximum of 100 voice quality tasks.

Procedure

  1. Choose Resource > Collaboration Resource from the main menu.
  2. In the navigation tree on the left, choose Terminal Device Management > Monitoring Management > Monitoring Voice Quality.
  3. Set monitoring parameters.

    1. Click Configure.
    2. Set the data collection period and the value range of the mean opinion score (MOS) in the Configure dialog box.
      NOTE:

      After the preceding parameters are configured, the network management system redelivers the monitoring command, which changes the parameter settings of a monitored area.

    3. Click OK.

    Add

    1. Click Add.
    2. On the Add Monitoring page, click Select Terminal Monitoring Object. In the Select Resource dialog box that is displayed, select phone devices to be monitored and click Confirm.
      NOTE:

      Default groups are displayed on the left of the Select Resource dialog box. You can click a group to go to the corresponding subgroup. In the subgroup list, you can click to return to the upper-level group. Resource groups of the current group are displayed on the right of the Select Resource dialog box.

    3. Click Time to set the time to start and stop the monitoring.

      If you do not specify a value for Time, the device reports voice quality data based on the preset data collection period.

    4. Click OK.

    Refresh

    Click Refresh to check the latest monitoring configuration.

    Delete

    Select one or more monitored areas on the Monitoring Management page and click Delete.

  4. View the monitoring data.

    1. In the navigation tree on the left, choose Terminal Device Management > Monitoring Management > Voice Quality Data.
    2. Enter related voice quality information in the search box, for example, Calling Area, Called Area, Calling Device, Called Device, Calling number, and Called number. Then select a specified time.
    3. Click Search.

      The detailed voice quality data that meets the search criteria is displayed. You can view the voice quality data by clicking the Detailed Data, Report Data, Report View, and Sample tab pages.

    4. Click Export in the Report View window to export report data and charts.

  5. Setting the Alarm Threshold

    1. In the navigation tree on the left, choose Terminal Device Management > Monitoring Management > Voice Quality Alarm.
    2. Set the conditions for generating and clearing an alarm and the number of times the MOS value exceeds the threshold. Click OK.

      For example, if Number of repetitions is set to 3, the eSight will report a voice quality threshold alarm when the MOS value has exceeded the threshold for three consecutive periods.
