O&M Preparations

O&M Preparations

To monitor the FusionCompute in a better way, set synchronization policies and alarm rules in advance to ensure smooth operations of key devices.

Table 11-5 O&M preparations

Task Name

Task Description

Operation Entry

Setting data synchronization policies

Recommended.

The FusionCompute cannot automatically report resource changes to eSight. eSight needs to actively obtain the changes from the FusionCompute.

If resource synchronization is disabled, eSight will not be able to detect FusionCompute resource changes, for example, changes of clusters to which hosts belong and migration of VMs on hosts.

NOTE:

By default, eSight executes data synchronization at 02:00 every day. You can configure the synchronization policy based on the site requirements. When resource synchronization is completed, alarm synchronization is triggered automatically.

  1. Choose Resource > Virtual Resources from the main menu.
  2. Choose Virtual Resources > FusionCompute in the navigation area on the left.
  3. Above the FusionCompute list on the right, click Synchronize Data and choose Settings.

Setting performance data collection policies

Recommended.

The FusionCompute cannot automatically report performance data to eSight. eSight needs to actively obtain the data from the FusionSphere.

If performance synchronization is disabled, eSight cannot display historical FusionCompute performance data.

If you do not care about FusionCompute performance data, you can disable performance synchronization.

  1. Choose Resource > Virtual Resources from the main menu.
  2. Choose Virtual Resources > FusionCompute in the navigation area on the left.
  3. Set Historical performance acquisition switch of the NE to .
NOTE:

Ensure that the time on eSight is consistent with that on the FusionCompute so that the performance data can be collected.

Setting the modules to be displayed on the home page

Top N view

The Top N view displays the running status of key resources, from which you can view issues to resolve and sort them by priority.

NOTE:

The Top N view can be regarded as a portal provided by virtual resources. By default, the Top N view displays five records and is updated every 5 minutes.

Home

VMs about which you especially care

By displaying VMs about which you especially care on the home page, you can view their running status and detect abnormal VMs in time.

Setting large-screen monitoring

In some scenarios such as O&M center and exhibition hall, eSight can display the statistics of monitored objects on a large screen at a high resolution for centralized monitoring, demonstration, or reporting.

Big Screen Monitor

Setting alarm rules

Alarm masking

Alarm masking rules can be specified to prevent devices from reporting unnecessary alarms during site deployment, commissioning, or maintenance, simplifying alarm handling.

  1. Choose Fault > Alarm Settings from the main menu.
  2. Choose Masking Rule in the navigation area on the left.

Redefining

Adjust alarm severities to ensure smooth operation of network devices in a specific area or some key devices and provide quality network assurance services. (For example, high severities can be assigned to important alarms so that network maintenance engineers will handle the alarms preferentially.)

  1. Choose Fault > Alarm Settings from the main menu.
  2. Choose Redefinition Rule in the navigation area on the left.

Remote notification

eSight can send alarms and events to network maintenance engineers by email or SMS message. In this way, they can check and handle alarms and events even when they are unable to access eSight.

  1. Choose Fault > Alarm Settings from the main menu.
  2. Choose Notification Rule in the navigation area on the left.
