Resource Configuration

The unified storage resource management platform of eSight allows users to create storage pools, LUNs, and host mappings for a variety of storage devices in batches, achieving unified storage resource allocation and management. When there is a large number of storage devices or hosts, you need to plan the storage resources in a unified manner. eSight allows you to integrate the storage resources into storage pools, assign storage resources to LUNs with the same capacity, and map the LUNs to specific hosts.

The system supports two storage configuration modes: web and custom script. Users can choose either of the modes based on the site requirements. After the creation, configuration tasks can be saved as frequently-used tasks to be directly used next time.

NOTE:
  • Allocated resources cannot be canceled, modified, and deleted after the resource configuration task is executed. Plan resources and prepare data in advance. To adjust allocated resources, adjust them using the device management software.
  • Storage pools can be created only on SSD, SAS, and NL-SAS disks.

Common resource configuration functions are applicable to the following types of storage devices:

      Create storage resource pools in batches on the storage device.

    • Creating LUN configurations

      Create LUNs in the storage pool on the specified storage device in batches.

    • Creating host mapping configurations

      Map LUNs on the specified storage device to the hosts.

    • Creating customized configurations

      Execute the customized configuration script on the storage device.

  • Creating common configurations

    You can preset common configuration templates for storage pool configuration, LUN configuration, host mapping configuration, and customized configuration. When creating these configurations, you can directly use the parameters that have been set in the configuration templates.

Typical Scenarios

  • Storage resource initialization

    In a newly deployed site or an environment with newly connected storage devices, you need to initially allocate the resources of the storage devices. You can use the resource allocation function to create storage pools and LUNs of the same specifications for future use.

  • Host resource allocation

    When storage resources need to be allocated for a group of hosts, you can use the resource allocation function to map a group of LUNs to the group of hosts so that hosts in the group can use storage resources of this group of LUNs.
