Application Management

Application Management

eSight can allocate resources to applications, including hosts, LUNs, and file systems. It can also manage the allocated resources.

Creating an Application

eSight can allocate resources to applications, including hosts, LUNs, and file systems. It can also manage the allocated resources.

Procedure

  1. On the menu bar, choose Resource > Storage Subnet.

  2. Click Application.
  3. Click Create.
  4. Enter the name of an application and select an application type.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Choose resources that need to be allocated to the application, including hosts, LUNs, and file systems.

The following describes how to add an application using a LUN.

    NOTE:

eSight provides application creation using hosts, LUNs, or file systems. The differences are as follows.

    • If you choose to create an application using a host, the host must be added to eSight. If the application is associated with a host added in Agent mode, an application performance report will be displayed. If the application is associated with a host added in Agentless mode, no application performance report will be displayed.
    • If no host is added to eSight, and you choose to create an application using a LUN or a file system, directly allocate storage resources to the application and analyze the performance of the application.

  7. Enter the name of a LUN or the name of its owning storage pool or disk domain that meets requirements.
  8. Click Next.

    NOTE:

Add a host to the application. LUNs and file systems associated with the host will be allocated to the application.

  9. Select LUNs that meet requirements.
  10. Click to add the LUNs that meet requirements to the selected LUN list.
  11. Click Finish. You can click Export to export the created application information table to a local directory.

Result

The added application can be viewed on the Application Management > Application page.

    Description

    Abstract

    Choose Details > Abstract.

    • If the application is created using a host, the Abstract page displays detailed information about the host. If the application is created using a LUN or a file system, the Abstract page displays detailed information about the LUN or the file system.
    • The performance indicator curve displays the performance status of all LUNs and file systems in the application based on the bandwidth, throughput, and average I/O response time. The bandwidth and throughput include read, write, and total bandwidths and throughputs, and reflect the performance status of the LUNs and file systems in the application. The average I/O response time reflects the average performance status of the LUNs and file systems in the application.
    • In the Uncleared Alarms area, view the last 5 uncleared alarms of the application.
    NOTE:

The data collection period of LUNs needs to be consistent with that of file systems. Otherwise, read/write bandwidth data cannot be displayed normally.

    Alarm List

    Choose Details > Alarm List.

    • If the application is created using a host, the Alarm page displays host alarms. If the application is created using a LUN or a file system, the Alarm page displays LUN alarms or file system alarms.
    • The alarm page shows the alarm information of the application.

    Host

    Choose Resources > Host.

If the application is created using a host, the detailed information about all the hosts of the application can be viewed on the Host page.

    1. Click the name of the desired host on the Host page.
    2. The page shows the status, IP address, and host system information of the selected host.

    LUN

    Choose Resources > LUN.

The LUN page shows the LUN information of the application.

    File System

    Choose Resources > File System

The file system page shows the file system information of the application.
