Connecting to a Third-Party System Using FTP or SFTP

After the eSight connects to a third-party system using SFTP or FTP, the third-party system can obtain topology resource files or performance files of the eSight through the northbound FTP interface.

The northbound FTP interface transfers topology resource files or performance files in push or pull mode. Plan the file transfer mode when configuring the northbound FTP interface. Table1 describes the two modes.

Mode

Description

push

In this mode, the eSight actively uploads topology resource files or performance files to the FTP server of the third-party system using an FTP client.

pull

In this mode, the third-party system user logs in to the eSight FTP server using an FTP client to download topology resource files or performance files.

NOTE:
  • You can set the transfer protocol to FTP or SFTP in the two transfer modes. SFTP is based on the SSH protocol and the transfer contents are encrypted. SFTP is recommended because it is more secure.
  • You can set the file transfer mode as push mode only by modifying the configuration file on the server. For details, see Self-Service Integration Guide.
  • You can set the file transfer mode as pull mode by GUI configuration and configuring the configuration file. The following uses the pull mode setting by GUI configuration as an example to describe how to connect a third-party system using SFTP or FTP protocol. For details about how to configure the configuration file, see Self-Service Integration Guide.

Prerequisites

  • You have obtained the IP address and protocol type of the third-party system.
  • You have the operation rights for System Integration Parameter Settings.
  • On the Local System Settings page, the parameters in the FTP Interface area have been configured.

Procedure

  1. Choose System > System Settings > Northbound Integration from the main menu.
  2. Choose Third-party System Settings from the navigation tree and click Create.
  3. In the Third-party System area, set the obtained IP address of the third-party system. Select SFTP/FTP for Protocol type.
  4. In the SFTP/FTP Protocol area, set User name, Password, Upload speed (bit/s), and Download speed (bit/s) of the third-party system.
    NOTE:
    • You can set the SFTP/FTP user name and password. After the setting, the user is created on the eSight server.
    • Upload speed: The user using FTP can control the file upload speed when the bandwidth is limited, and assign the upload speed of other users using FTP as required. The value 0 indicates that the upload speed is not limited.
    • Download speed: The user using FTP can control the file download speed when the bandwidth is limited, and assign the download speed of other users using FTP as required. The value 0 indicates that the download speed is not limited.
  5. Click OK.
    NOTE:

    If the third-party system is a distributed system, you can add multiple IP addresses to the whitelist by modifying the configuration file nbi.xml. The configuration file path is eSight installation directory/AppBase/etc/oms.nbi/nbi.xml. The modification method is as follows: Copy the parent node userInfo where the master server IP address resides and all its subnodes, and paste them before the </NBIConfig> node. Change the master server IP address of the NmsinfoName configuration item to the standby server IP address, save the file, and restart the eSight. To add multiple standby server IP addresses, repeat the preceding steps.
