Automatically Updating the Upgrade Package and Upgrading the Firmware

This section provides an example to describe how to automatically upgrade server firmware.

Prerequisites

You have registered an account with Huawei's technical support website.

Context

Enterprise A uses eSight to manage its servers. Its system administrator wants to configure eSight to automatically download the server firmware upgrade package and upgrade the iMana firmware on blade 11 (CH220-192.168.16.26) of the E9000 server at a specified time.

  2. Download the upgrade package online.

    3. Configure basic information of the baseline package, and select download conditions and associated devices.

      Set Baseline package type to Auto update.

    4. Click OK.

  3. Create a firmware upgrade task and perform the upgrade.

    1. In the navigation tree, choose Firmware Management > Task Management.

    2. Click Create. The page for creating a firmware upgrade task is displayed.
    3. Configure basic information about the firmware upgrade task.

      Basic task information includes the task name and description.

    4. Select the device whose firmware is to be upgraded.

    5. Select the firmware package to be updated.

Procedure

  1. Download the firmware upgrade package.

    1. Visit Huawei enterprise technical support website. http://support.huawei.com/enterprise/
      NOTE:

      This topic uses the enterprise technical support website as an example. For the carrier technical support website, visit http://support.huawei.com/carrier/. The methods for downloading the firmware upgrade package are similar at both websites.

    2. Enter CH220 or CH222 in the search box and click .

    3. Click the Downloads tab and select the latest version.

    4. Click in the Downloads column of CH121&CH220&CH221&CH222-iMana-V626.zip. Then, click to download the digital signature file of the upgrade package.

  2. Add the firmware upgrade package.

    1. On the menu bar, choose Resource > Server.

    2. In the navigation tree, choose Firmware Management > File Management.

    3. Click Add to go to the page for uploading firmware upgrade packages.
    4. Click Select file and select the firmware upgrade package and its digital signature file.

    5. Click Upload.

      The system starts to upload the selected firmware upgrade package and digital signature file.

    6. Select associated devices.

    7. Click OK. The upgrade package management page is displayed.

  3. Create a firmware upgrade task and perform the upgrade.

      • In the Select devices area, enter filter conditions to select the HMMs, blades (CH121 V3 and CH220 V3), and switch modules (CX210 and CX220).

    4. Click OK.

  3. Create a firmware upgrade task and perform the upgrade.

    1. In the navigation tree on the left, choose Firmware Management > Task Management.
    2. View the list of upgrade devices below the specified firmware upgrade task.

Downloading and Preparing Upgrade Packages

This section uses the E9000 chassis as an example to describe how to create an upgrade package for all components in E2E mode.

Context

Before preparing a device upgrade package, you need to determine the modules and components to be upgraded based on the obtained device models.

NOTE:

Operations on the iBMC page vary slightly depending on version. This section uses iBMC firmware version 2.98 (U4000) as an example. You can obtain the iBMC firmware version on the iBMC overview page.

  1. Click the System Info tab to go to the system information page.
  2. Click the Storage tab and obtain the RAID card type information.

  3. Click the Network tab and obtain information about the CNA, HBA, NIC, and IB cards.

  4. Click the Software tab and obtain the operating system information.
    NOTE:

    You can query the operating system information on the Software tab only after the iBMA 2.0 is installed on the operating system on the server.

Procedure

  1. Enable automatic update of upgrade packages.

    1. Choose Resource > Server from the main menu.

    2. Choose Firmware Management > Automatic Update Settings in the navigation tree on the left.
    3. Set automatic update parameters as prompted.

    4. Click Account Test.
    5. After a successful test, click Save.

  2. Confirm the model of devices to be upgraded and obtain the device information.

    For example, you need to obtain the following device information for the E9000 upgrade package.

    • Chassis: MM910
    • Switch module: CX920 for slots 1 and 4 and CX710 for slots 2 and 3 in the E9000 chassis.
    • Compute node:
      • Eight CH121 V3 nodes (operating system: VMWare 6.5) and eight CH140 V3 nodes (operating system: Redhat 7.4)
      • RAID card: RAID 3108
      • Mezzanine card: MZ510
      • Driver: VMWare 6.5 and Redhat 7.4

  3. Download the upgrade package online.

    1. Choose Firmware Management > File Management in the navigation tree on the left, and click Online download.

    2. Configure basic information about the upgrade package, and select download conditions and associated devices.
      1. Set Baseline package name to E9000_10.10.10.1.
      2. In the Download condition area, click Add. The Add download condition page is displayed.
      3. Select the firmware upgrade packages for the chassis and switch module.
        Set Device model to Chassis and Device model to E9000 Chassis.
        1. Select the firmware package for the MM910 chassis.

        1. Select the firmware packages for the CX920 and CX710 switch modules.

        2. Click OK.

      4. Select the firmware upgrade package for compute nodes.
        • Set Device model to Blade and Device model to CH121 V3.
          1. Select the firmware upgrade packages for the BIOS, CPLD, and iBMC on the blade server.

          2. Select the firmware upgrade package for the RAID3108 RAID card.

          3. Select the firmware upgrade package for the MZ510 Mezzanine card.

          4. Select the firmware upgrade package for the VMWare 6.5 driver.

          5. Click OK.

        • Set Device model to Blade and Device model to CH140 V3.
          1. Select the firmware upgrade packages for the BIOS, CPLD, and iBMC on the blade server.

          2. Select the firmware upgrade package for the RAID3108 RAID card.

          3. Select the firmware upgrade package for the MZ510 Mezzanine card.

          4. Select the firmware upgrade package for the Redhat 7.4 driver.

          5. Click OK.
