Setting the eSight to Interconnect with the Syslog Server

Setting the eSight to Interconnect with the Syslog Server

The eSight interconnects and communicates properly with the Syslog server is a prerequisite for the log forwarding function. To ensure proper communication, you must configure the information about the Syslog server on the eSight server.

Prerequisites

You have the operation rights for Transfer Settings.

Procedure

  1. Choose System > System Settings > System Interconnection from the main menu. Choose Transfer Settings > Log Transfer Settings in the navigation area on the left.
  2. On the Transfer Settings page, perform the following operations.

    Operation

    Method

    Create

Click Create and set the information about the server that receives logs. For details, see Parameters.

    NOTE:
    1. To enable the log forwarding function, select Yes from the Enabled drop-down list box.
    2. String filter does not support wildcards.
    3. If Protocol Type is set to TCP or TLS, the eSight log forwarding service first sends logs to the primary server. If the logs fail to be sent, the service sends logs to the secondary server. After a successful connection, the service only sends logs to the secondary Syslog server. If Protocol Type is set to UDP, the log forwarding service sends log only to the primary server. If Protocol Type is set to TLS, you must deploy the SSL certificate for the log forwarding service. For details, see section Deploying or Updating the Log Forwarding Service Certificate.
    4. If the value of Protocol is UDP, the eSight cannot determine whether the IP addresses and ports on the remote Syslog server are valid, because the UDP cannot ensure transmission reliability.
    5. The Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocol secures data transfer through data encryption. If the value of Protocol is TLS, the eSight log forwarding server encrypts and sends logs to the Syslog server.
    6. A maximum of ten servers can be set for receiving logs.
    7. If eSight is deployed on the primary and secondary environments and Use local IP address is set to Yes, ensure that the IP address of the local system is a floating IP address.

    Delete

Select a desired server and click Delete.

    Edit

Click and edit the information about the server that receives logs. For details, see Parameters.

    Refresh

Click Refresh to obtain the updates made by other users on the server that receives logs.
