Introduction to eSight

The enterprise O&M is complex in aspects of the basic network, unified communications, Telepresence conference, video surveillance, data center devices, and network services. O&M personnel have to switch between multiple management systems when diagnosing and locating faults, which is time- and labor-consuming. To improve O&M efficiency, a system is required to monitor all devices, associate and locate faults, and provide one-stop service configurations.

To meet demands of enterprise customers, eSight uses key technologies such as the modular and web designs, network status monitoring and recovery methods such as unified alarm and performance management, and a variety of optional service components. eSight helps customers build an appropriate, simple, and easy-to-use O&M environment. Customers need only one suite of management software, eSight, to implement unified management and association analysis on enterprise resources, services, and users, therefore realizing easy management over the entire network.

  • Modular architecture

    eSight adopts the modular architecture and Open Services Gateway Initiative (OSGi) to support dynamic insertion and removal of application components and provide different users with proper component combinations based on service networks.

  • Web architecture

    eSight has advantages of the B/S architecture. Users can use browsers on clients to access eSight. When eSight requires the upgrade or maintenance, users need to upgrade only software on the server.

  • Scalable architecture

    Network management features of eSight consist of the network management model, public logic, and device adaptation. Device adaptation extracts functions that are related to the NE type as extension points, which are achieved by independent device adaption kits. In this way, different adaptation packages can be loaded on a stable eSight version to manage various devices. Device adaptation is represented by device adaptation packages. To adapt to new device versions when service functions remain unchanged, upgrade the device adaptation packages. If Huawei devices are used, users can obtain the latest device adaptation package from Huawei website. If devices of other vendors are used, users or agents can develop adaptation packages as required.

  • Integrated architecture
    1. The standard web-based architecture has the single sign-on (SSO) capabilities and can implement SSO integration with other web systems as an SSO server or client.
    2. The authentication and authorization module can integrate with Authentication, Authorization and Accounting (AAA) servers such as Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) and Remote Authentication Dial In User Service (RADIUS) servers.
    3. Northbound interfaces based on Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) can interwork with the upper-layer operations support system (OSS) and other systems.
    4. REST Open APIs based on HTTP/HTTPS help eSight integrate with other heterogeneous systems.
    5. File interfaces based on FTP/FTPS allow the upper-layer OSS to obtain historical performance data and topology data of NEs from eSight.
