How Do I Configure the Firewall of the Windows Operating System
Question
After the operating system is installed, the firewall is enabled by default. How Do I configure the firewall?
Answer
- Restart the Windows firewall on the control panel and perform the following operations to configure the firewall:
- Go to Control Panel, and choose System Security > Windows Firewall.
- In the Windows Firewall window, click Turn Windows Firewall on or off on the left.
- In the Customize Settings window, select Turn Windows Firewall on in Private network settings and Public network settings.
- Click OK for the settings to take effect.
- Go to Control Panel, and choose System Security > Windows Firewall.
- Add firewall exception sites in Windows 2012.
- For details about the ports to be configured, see Related Operations. Port 8080 is used as an example to describe how to add TCP firewall exception sites in Windows 2012.
- The procedure for adding outbound exception sites is similar to that for adding inbound exception sites.
- On the Windows Firewall page, click Advanced settings.
- Choose Inbound Rules from the navigation tree on the left of the window that is displayed.
- Click New Rule at the upper right corner.
- On the right of the window that is displayed, select Port and click Next.
- In the window that is displayed, perform the following operations to set related parameters:
- Select TCP.
- Select Specific local ports and enter 8080 in the text box.
- Click Next.
- In the window that is displayed, select Allow the connection and click Next.
- In the window that is displayed, ensure that the following check boxes are selected:
- Domain
- Private
- Public
- Click Next.
- In the window that is displayed, enter a rule name in the Name text box, for example, TCPPortin.
- Click Finish to create an inbound rule.
- Close the windows one by one.
Related Operations
- Perform Step 2 to add ports whose Firewall Enabled is set to Yes as inbound exception sites based on the eSight as a Server sheet in the communication matrix of the corresponding version.
- To configure outbound exception sites, follow instructions on the eSight as a Client sheet in the communication matrix of the corresponding version to filter ports whose Firewall Enabled is set to Yes.
