What Can I Do If Windows Logs Occupy Too Many Memory Resources on the Windows Server OS
Question
On the Windows Server OS, eSight responds slowly, or a blank page is displayed. In addition, according to the task manager, too many memory resources are occupied, affecting system operations. How can I deal with this problem?
Answer
A large size of Windows logs may consume too many memory resources.
- Log in to the operating system as the administrator.
- Access the Windows Logs page and view the log size.
- For the Windows Server 2012 R2 system:
- Right-click Start and choose Computer Management.
- On the Computer Management page, choose Computer Management > System Tools > Event Viewer > Windows Logs.
- For the Windows Server 2008 R2 system:
- Click Start, right-click Computer, and choose Manage.
- On the Server Manager page, choose Diagnostics > Event Viewer > Windows Logs.
- For the Windows Server 2012 R2 system:
- The following takes the Security Log as an example to describe how to save and clear a log on the Windows Logs page. The process for other logs are the same.
- Click Security.
- In the Actions area on the right pane, click Clear Log....
- In the dialog box that is displayed, click Save and Clear.
- Select a path where the log will be stored, set the log name, and click Save. The system will save and clear the log.
- In the Actions area on the right pane, click Properties to change the value of Maximum log size (KB).
The recommended value for the Security Log is 196608, and that for other logs is 32768.
- After clearing the logs, check whether eSight runs properly. If the problem persists, contact Huawei engineers.
