Locally Installing the Windows Server 2012 Operating System Using the Standard Installation Disc (Huawei Server)
This section describes how to locally install the Windows Server 2012 R2 operating system using the standard installation disc on Huawei 2288H V5 servers.
Installing the Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard Edition
This section describes how to install the Windows Server 2012 R2 operating system using the standard installation disc on Huawei 2288H V5 servers. Before installing the system, you need to prepare the Windows Server 2012 R2 operating system by yourself. The following information is for reference only.
Procedure
- Start the installation program.
- Log in to the server through the management port.
For details about logging in to the 2288H V5 server, see Logging In to the 2288H V5 Server Through the Management Port.
- On the toolbar of the Remote Virtual Console, click
and choose Power Off.
- On the toolbar of the Remote Virtual Console, click
to set the installation media.
- To use the installation disc, select CD/DVD, select a drive letter from the drop-down list box, and click Connect.
- To use the ISO image of the quick installation disc, select Image File, click Browse, add the image, and click Connect.
When Connect changes to Disconnect, the installation media has been connected to the server.
- To use the installation disc, select CD/DVD, select a drive letter from the drop-down list box, and click Connect.
- Set the boot item.
- On the iBMC web management page, choose Configuration from the main menu.
- In the navigation tree on the left, choose Boot Device.
- Set the parameters listed in the following table.

- On the toolbar of the Remote Virtual Console, click
and choose Power On.
- Log in to the server through the management port.
- When the message "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD" is displayed, press any key.
- The system starts to copy the operating system files. After the files are loaded, the window for selecting an installation language is displayed. Click Next.
- Click Install now.
- Enter a valid product key and click Next.
- Select the operating system to be installed and click Next.
- Select I accept the license terms and click Next.
- Select the installation type.
- Use the partition function of the Windows installation disc to create partitions for the remaining space, and then click Next. The installation window is displayed.
If you partition the remaining disk space after installing the operating system, you may need to change the drive letters of the partitions.
If the server is 2288H V5 and the Windows installation disc does not contain the corresponding driver, perform the following operations to load the driver:- On the toolbar of the Remote Virtual Console, click
and click Disconnect to disconnect the inserted system disk.
- Select Directory, click Browse, and select a driver decompression directory.
- Click Connect.
- Click Load driver.
- Click Next to install the driver. After the installation is complete, the storage device is displayed.
- On the toolbar of the Remote Virtual Console, click
and click Disconnect to disconnect the inserted driver disk.
- Insert the system disk and click Connect to continue installing the operating system.
- On the toolbar of the Remote Virtual Console, click
- The system starts to copy operating system files and automatically continues the installation.
The entire process takes about 30 minutes. During the process, the system restarts several times. When the installation is complete, the login page is displayed.
- After the installation is completed, set a password for the administrator account for the first login. Then, click Finish.
- Upon the first login, the Server Manager window is displayed.
Verification
- Log in to the eSight server as the Administrator user.
- Right-click Computer and choose Properties from the shortcut menu.
- In the System window, verify that the operating system version is Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard.
Turning Off the Windows Operating System Firewall
After the operating system is installed, the firewall is enabled by default. To ensure the normal use of eSight functions, you need to disable the operating system firewall. To enable the firewall of the operating system, perform operations in "How Do I Enable the Firewall of the Windows Operating System".

Procedure
- Log in to the server as the Administrator user.
- Choose Start > Control Panel.
- In Control Panel, choose System and Security > Windows Firewall.
The Windows Firewall window is displayed.
- Click Turn Windows Firewall on or off.
The Customize Settings window is displayed.
- Select Turn off Windows Firewall and click OK.
Configuring the Network
After the operating system is installed, you must configure the network to connect the eSight server to the network.
Procedure
- Choose Start > Control Panel.
The Control Panel window is displayed.
- Click Network and Sharing Center.
The Network and Sharing Center window is displayed.
- Click Change adapter settings.
The Network Connections window is displayed.
- Double-click a network connection whose IP address you want to set, for example, Local Area Connection.
The Local Area Connection Status dialog box is displayed.
- Click Properties.
The Local Area Connection Properties dialog box is displayed.
- Set the IP address.
- Setting an IPv4 address
- Choose Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click Properties.
The Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties dialog box is displayed.
- Click Use the following IP address. Set IP address, Subnet mask, Default gateway, and DNS server addresses.
- Click OK.
- Choose Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click Properties.
- Setting an IPv6 address
- Choose Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) and click Properties.
The Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) Properties dialog box is displayed.
- Click Use the following IPv6 address. Set IPv6 address, Subnet prefix length, Default gateway, and DNS server addresses.
- Click OK.
- Choose Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) and click Properties.
- Setting an IPv4 address
- Click OK to exit the Local Area Connection Properties dialog box.
Verification
- Log in to another computer that can communicate with the network where the eSight server resides.
- Choose Start > Run.
The Run dialog box is displayed.
- Enter cmd and click OK.
The CLI is displayed.
- Enter ping eSight server IP address and press Enter.
For example, after you run ping 192.168.1.100, if the following information is displayed, the network is configured successfully:

- Enter exit.
Configuring the Windows Remote Desktop
If you want to connect to the eSight server through the remote desktop for eSight maintenance, configure the remote desktop. Configuring the remote desktop may cause information security risks. Therefore, exercise caution when performing this operation.
Prerequisites
The firewall has been disabled. For details, see Turning Off the Windows Operating System Firewall.
Procedure
- Log in to the server as the administrator user.
- Right-click Computer and choose Properties.
The System dialog box is displayed.
- Click Remote settings.
The System Properties dialog box is displayed.
- Click the Remote tab and select an option under Remote Desktop as required.
- To prevent anyone from connecting to your computer using the remote desktop, select Don't allow remote connections to this computer.
- To allow people to use the remote desktop of any version to connect to your computer, select Allow remote connections to this computer.
- To allow people to connect to your computer from the remote desktop after network level authentication, select Allow connections only from computers running Remote Desktop with Network Level Authentication.
If you use the remote desktop or a remote connection tool with network level authentication to log in to the eSight server, select Allow connections only from computers running Remote Desktop with Network Level Authentication, which is a more secure option.
- Click OK.
The Remote Desktop Connection dialog box is displayed.
- Click OK.
Verification
- Log in to another computer that can communicate with the network where the eSight server resides.
- Choose Start > Run.
The Run dialog box is displayed.
- Enter mstsc and click OK.
The Remote Desktop Connection dialog box is displayed.
- Enter the eSight server IP address and click Connect.
The Windows Security dialog box is displayed.
- Select a login account, enter the password, and click OK.
The message "The identity of the remote computer cannot be verified. Do you want to connect anyway?" is displayed.
- Click Yes.
The remote desktop is displayed.
Setting the Virtual Memory
If the default system settings are used, the virtual memory paging file may be too large. To address this problem, set the virtual memory.
Procedure
- On the Start menu, right-click This PC and choose Properties.
- In the System window, click Advanced system settings.
- In the System Properties dialog box, click the Advanced tab and click Settings in the Performance area.
- In the Performance Options dialog box, click the Advanced tab and click Change in the Virtual memory area.
- Set the virtual memory of the system drive (C:).
- In the Virtual Memory dialog box, deselect Automatically manage paging file size for all drives.
- Select C: from the drive list.
- Click Custom size and set Initial size and Maximum size based on the following rules:
The paging file size does not exceed the remaining space in drive C and a certain space must be reserved.
- If the server memory size is less than or equal to 32 GB, set Initial size to 8 GB and Maximum size to 16 GB.
To check the physical memory size, run the following command on the CLI:
systeminfo | find "Total Physical Memory"
Total Physical Memory: 32,760 MB
- If the server memory size is greater than 32 GB, set Initial size and Maximum size to 16 GB.
- If the server memory size is less than or equal to 32 GB, set Initial size to 8 GB and Maximum size to 16 GB.
- Click Set.
- Set the virtual memory of the eSight installation drive (D:).
- Select D: from the drive list.
- Select No paging file and click Set.
- If another drive is available, select No paging file for the drive by referring to 6.
- Click OK.
- In the System Properties dialog box that is displayed, click OK.
- Close all dialog boxes and restart the eSight server.
Activating Windows
To ensure normal use of eSight, you are advised to activate the Windows operating system within 90 days.
Prerequisites
You have obtained the product key of the Windows Server 2012 R2 standard edition.
You can find the product key in the Windows packing box.
The format of the product key is XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX.
In the preinstallation scenario, the Windows operating system is not activated. To ensure normal use of the Server, you are advised to activate the Windows operating system within 90 days.
Context
The Windows Server 2012 R2 standard edition can be activated online or through a call.
To activate it online, ensure that the eSight server can connect to the Internet. To activate it through a call, there is no need to connect the eSight server to the Internet.
Online Activation
- Log in to the server as the SWMaster user.
After security hardening, the administrator account changes from Administrator to SWMaster.
- Right-click Computer and choose Properties from the shortcut menu.
The System window is displayed. Click Activate Windows.
- Enter the product key as prompted to activate the Windows operating system.
Activation Through a Call
- Log in to the server as the SWMaster user.
After security hardening, the administrator account changes from administrator to SWMaster.
- Move the mouse to the blue area in the lower right corner of the desktop, and click Search.
- Enter cmd in the search box to access the CLI.
- Run the slmgr /ipk xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx command. The system prompts that the product key xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx is successfully installed.
XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX indicates the product key.
- Run the slui 4 command. The Windows activation page is displayed.
- Select your country or region to obtain the local Windows service number and click Next.
- Call the displayed service number and perform operations as prompted. Offer the installation ID displayed on the interface to the customer service personnel and record the confirmation ID (eight groups of digits) provided by the customer service personnel.
- Click Enter Confirm ID, enter the confirmation ID, and click Activate Windows.
Verification
- Log in to the server as the administrator user.
- Right-click Computer and choose Properties from the shortcut menu.
- In the System windows, check Windows activation information.
(Optional) Changing the Operating System Host Name
When you install the operating system, a host name is generated by default. To facilitate server management, you are advised to change the host name based on the plan.
Procedure
- Log in to the operating system as the SWMaster user.
After security hardening, the administrator account changes from administrator to SWMaster.
- Select Start, right-click the This PC desktop icon, and choose Properties from the shortcut menu.
- Click Change settings in the Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings area.
- Click the Computer Name tab, and click Change.
- In the dialog box that is displayed, change the computer name and click OK.
- Restart the Windows operating system.
