Collecting Network Information Using the VTS

The Versatile Tools Suite (VTS) can be used to periodically collect the information about the network where the endpoint is located. The VTS helps administrators know and rectify endpoint faults in time to ensure proper running of the endpoint.

Context

The VTS, which includes a diversity of visualized service tools, improves the work efficiency of system maintenance engineers and supports the sales of value-added and service products. The VTS integrates the functions of network information collection and NE health check. Without the network management system, the VTS is able to collect information about NEs on the live network and perform a health check.

Do not use the VTS to collect information about the endpoint that is calling or in a conference.

By loading the mediation package of the endpoint, the VTS can collect the information about the network where the endpoint is located and perform a heath check on the endpoint, including:

  • Basic information, including tracing information, one-click diagnostics results, signaling diagnostics results, and serial number (SN)
  • Hardware information, including the CPU usage, memory usage, camera status, temperature, and connection status of the video and presentation sources
  • Software information, including GK/SIP registration information, software version, network port mode, and answering mode

Personal information is not collected.

Prerequisites

The corresponding mediation package has been obtained from the software package of the endpoint and loaded to the VTS before collecting endpoint network information for the first time.

The NE adaptation package is stored under tools\VTS tool match of the endpoint software package.

Procedure

  1. Double-click to start the VTS.
  2. Double-click Network Information Collection.

    The Network Information Collection window is displayed.

  3. Choose NE Management > NE Information Maintenance.

    The NE Information Maintenance tab page is displayed.

  4. On the NE Information Maintenance tab page, click Create and set NE type to TE10_TE20. Set the NE parameters listed in Table 2-6 and then click Apply.

  5. In the Network Information Collection window, choose Task Management > Task Management. On the Task List tab, click next to Create Task and choose Quickly Create.
  6. On the Collect Existing NE Information tab, set the task attributes and click Start Collection.

    • Only general information for fault analysis can be collected for the endpoint. Therefore, under Task Parameters > Select a Scenario, select Common fault analysis scenario.
    • From the NE list, select an NE for which you want to collect information. If you want to select multiple NEs, hold down the Ctrl or Shift button.

  7. After the task is complete, click Download in the Collection Result column. After the download, you can view and analyze the task result to identify and handle exceptions.

    The downloaded task result contains the task report and the collected information.
