Setting Advanced Conference Parameters

Setting Advanced Conference Parameters

Your endpoint allows you to configure advanced conference parameters before you initiate single-stream or dual-stream conferences.

Procedure

  1. Choose System Settings > Conference and click the Advanced Settings tab.
  2. Set the advanced conference parameters listed in Table 3-9.

    Table 3-9  Advanced conference parameters

    Parameter

    Description

    Setting

    Audio protocol

Specifies the audio protocol your endpoint uses to encode audio.

    The default value is Auto.

    Video protocol

Specifies the video protocol your endpoint uses to encode video.

During a non-multi-stream conference, the video protocol is the video protocol the endpoint uses at your site.

    The default value is Auto.

To initiate an HD video conference, select an H.264 HP-related video protocol.

    Video resolution

Specifies the video format. The available options vary depending on your settings of Video protocol.

When Video protocol is set to Auto, set this parameter to either of the following:

    • Sharp: Your endpoint uses a high video resolution to ensure clear video.
    • Smooth: Your endpoint uses a high frame rate to ensure smooth video.

    The default value is Sharp.

    Video frame rate

Specifies the frame rate used during video encoding.

When Video protocol is set to Auto, this parameter is not available.

Video at a higher frame rate is smoother. Video at a lower frame rate is clearer.

It is recommended that you set this parameter to Auto.

    Prevent little packet loss

Specifies whether to prevent sporadic packet loss to avoid artifacts.

    The default value is Disable.

Select this parameter if all endpoints are on the same private network and sporadic packet loss occurs.

    Presentation

Specifies whether you can share presentations during conferences.

    NOTE:

You can set Presentation protocol, Presentation resolution, and Presentation bandwidth setting only after you set this parameter to Enable.

    The default value is Enable.

    Presentation protocol

Specifies the video protocol your endpoint uses to encode presentations.

    The default value is Auto.

    Presentation resolution

Specifies the presentation format. The available options vary depending on your settings of Presentation protocol.

When Presentation protocol is set to Auto, only the Sharp format is available for presentation.

    The default value is Sharp.

    Presentation bandwidth setting

Specifies the mode for setting the presentation video bandwidth.

    • Auto: Your endpoint automatically sets the presentation video bandwidth based on the bandwidth available.
    • Manual: You must manually set Presentation bandwidth (%).

    The default value is Auto.

    Presentation bandwidth

Specifies the percentage of the call bandwidth presentations can occupy.

    NOTE:

This parameter is available only when Presentation is set to Enable and Presentation bandwidth setting is set to Manual.

    The default value is 50.

    Video interconnection mode

Specifies the mode in which the local endpoint exchanges video streams with the remote endpoint through H.264 BP.

    • Auto: Your endpoint automatically identifies the model of the peer endpoint and sets the mode for interconnecting with the peer endpoint.
    • Compatible: The local endpoint fails to automatically identify the peer endpoint so its video is unavailable on the peer endpoint. Select this option if the peer endpoint is a Huawei's ViewPoint 9039, ViewPoint 9039M, ViewPoint 9035, or ViewPoint 9036, Cisco's CTS500 or Vidyo, or Polycom's QDX 6000, VSX 7000, or VVX_1500.

    The default value is Auto.

    SiteCall networking mode

Specifies the networking mode used when an endpoint initiates a multipoint call.
    • SMC: Use the on-premises network for a SiteCall.
    • MediaX: Use the MediaX network for a SiteCall.
    • Auto: Preferentially use the on-premises network for a SiteCall. If the SiteCall fails, use the MediaX network for a SiteCall.

    The default value is Auto.

    Conference line type

Specifies the protocol used by the endpoint to initiate multipoint conferences in the SMC-based networking scheme.

This parameter is available only when Convene networking mode is set to SMC or Auto.

    The default value is Auto.

    Preferred IP protocol

Specifies the protocol that IP sites preferentially use.

When Line type is set to Auto for IP sites, your endpoint uses this protocol to call the IP sites.

    The default value is SIP.

    H.323 URI call mode

Specifies the mode in which the endpoint places calls by domain name.
    • H.323 URI prefix call: Calls are placed using the domain name prefix. Select this option if the endpoint is not registered with the GK and wants to join an ongoing conference on the MCU.
    • H.323 URI call: Calls are placed using the full domain name.

The default value is H.323 URI call.

    Reserved presentation bandwidth

Specifies whether the endpoint reserves bandwidth for presentation sharing when no presentation is being shared. The options are as follows:
    • Enable: The endpoint reserves certain bandwidth for presentation sharing even though no presentation is being shared.
    • Disable: The endpoint does not reserve bandwidth for presentation sharing and uses all the bandwidth for videos and audio.

    The default value is Enable.

    Dynamic bandwidth

Specifies whether the endpoint implements the following if audio and video quality decreases (such as increasing packet loss rate and network latency) are predictable due to insufficient network bandwidth: automatically decreases the conference bandwidth until packet loss does not occur constantly or the conference bandwidth is decreased to 64 kbit/s. If constant packet loss is detected, the endpoint can dynamically adjust bandwidth to recover stable conference quality within 1 minute.

    The default value is Disable.

    • When the network is running within normal parameters, select Disable.
    • When the network is not running within normal parameters, select Enable.

    Resolution reduction at low bandwidth

This parameter is available only after Dynamic bandwidth is set to Enable.

After Resolution reduction at low bandwidth is set to Enable, if the video protocol used by the endpoint is H.264 HP and the call bandwidth is 384 kbit/s, the endpoint uses 720p 30 fps for video encoding. If the same video protocol is used, but the call bandwidth increases to 512 kbit/s, video is encoded at 1080p 30 fps.

    The default value is Enable.

    SIP keep-alive period (s)

Specifies the interval at which the local endpoint periodically sends SIP link keepalive packets to the remote endpoint.

    The default value is 30.

    BFCP keep-alive period (s)

Specifies the interval at which the local endpoint periodically sends BFCP link keepalive packets to the remote endpoint.

    The default value is 10.

    AES256 encryption

Specifies whether to use the AES-256 encryption algorithm for encryption when the endpoint initiates an encrypted conference.

    The default value is Disable.

    Interworking with Polycom

After this function is enabled, the endpoint:
    • Connects to the Polycom recording server.
    • Saves layout settings locally.

    The default value is Disable.

  3. Click Save.

    The settings take effect immediately.
