Consistency Group Function

In medium- and large-sized database applications, data, logs, and modification information are stored in different volumes. If the data in one volume is lost or the data in any of the volumes is inconsistent with that in other volumes, the data in other volumes becomes invalid. A consistency group is a collection of multiple configurations. It ensures that the read/write control policies of multiple volumes in a storage system are consistent. The operations and control policies of the consistency group apply to all members that have been added to the group.

Multiple pairs are centrally managed using a consistency group.

The following compares the synchronization operations in scenarios whether a consistency group is in use to illustrate that consistency groups are effective in preventing data losses.

Consistency Group Not In Use

For volumes not added to a consistency group, data losses may occur, as shown in Figure 1-4.

For volumes added to a HyperMetro consistency group, no data is lost, as shown in Figure 1-5.
