Connection Planning Between the Storage Systems and Application Servers

The Dorado18000 V3 storage system supports Fibre Channel, GE, IB, FCoE and SmartIO interface modules that are applicable to the scenarios of Fibre Channel networking, Ethernet networking, and Fibre Channel over Ethernet respectively. Therefore, the Dorado18000 V3 storage system can provide services in various networking modes.

Before installing the Dorado18000 V3 storage system, determine how to network it with the application server. Table 6-1 describes the ports supported by various interface modules:

The I/O interface modules of the Dorado18000 V3 storage system need to be purchased in pairs and installed in slots on controller enclosures. Figure 6-1 shows the slots on a controller enclosure.

The slots on its interface modules are numbered L0, L1, L2, L3, L4, L5, R5, R4, R3, R2, R1, and R0 from left to right, and numbered IOM0 and IOM1 from top to bottom. The interface module accommodated by each slot on a controller enclosure is described as follows:

  • Slots L0IOM0, R0IOM0, L0IOM1 and R0IOM1 are slots for back-end interface modules and only support 12 Gbit/s SAS expansion modules.
  • PCIe interface modules are inserted in slots L3IOM0, R3IOM0, L3IOM1, and R3IOM1.
  • Interface modules of the same type must be inserted based on the slot sequence.
