Modifying the Advanced Properties of a Storage Pool

This operation enables you to modify the advanced properties of a storage pool.

Procedure

  1. Choose Provisioning > Storage Pool.
  2. Select the storage pool whose properties you want to modify and click Properties.

    The Properties of Storage Pool dialog box is displayed.

  3. In the Properties of Storage Pool dialog box, click the Advanced tab.

    Table 5-8 describes the related parameters.

    Capacity Alarm Threshold (%)

    If the storage pool contains a LUN with value-added services, or a thin LUN, the system generates a capacity alarm when the percentage of the storage pool's allocated capacity to its total capacity reaches the capacity alarm threshold.

    A proper capacity alarm threshold helps you monitor the capacity usage of a storage pool.

    Capacity Used Up Alarm Threshold (%)

    When the percentage of the allocated capacity to the storage pool's total capacity reaches the capacity used up alarm threshold, the system generates an alarm indicating that the capacity has nearly been exhausted. The severity of this alarm is higher than that of the capacity alarm.

    NOTE:

    The value of Capacity Used Up Alarm Threshold must be greater than that of Capacity Alarm Threshold.

    Enable Thin LUN Overcommitment

    Specifies whether to enable thin LUN overcommitment. If you enable this function, specify Thin LUN Overcommitment Percentage (%).

    Thin LUN Overcommitment Percentage (%)

    Percentage of the capacity that can be used to create thin LUNs to the storage pool's total capacity

    NOTE:
    • Assume that a storage pool's total capacity is 100 GB and Thin LUN Overcommitment Percentage is 150%. Creating a thin LUN will fail if the total thin LUN capacity exceeds 150 GB, that is, (New thin LUN's capacity + Existing thin LUNs' capacity)/Storage pool's total capacity > 150%. Similarly, expanding thin LUN capacity will fail if the percentage of the thin LUN capacity after expansion to the storage pool's total capacity exceeds 150%.
    • If Thin LUN Overcommitment Percentage is set to 0, no thin LUN can be created or expanded in the storage pool.
    • If the thin LUN overcommitment function is enabled, you are advised to set Thin LUN Overcommitment Percentage to a value greater than 100%.
    • The capacity of thin LUNs does not include the capacity of thin LUNs' snapshots.

    Automatically Delete Scheduled Data Protection

    This function enables the system to automatically delete the earliest HyperCDP objects when the percentage of the protection capacity to the storage pool's total capacity exceeds Protection Capacity Upper Limit. Automatic deletion stops when the percentage becomes smaller than Protection Capacity Lower Limit.

    Protection Capacity Lower Limit (%)

    After Automatically Delete Scheduled Data Protection is enabled and triggered, the system automatically deletes the earliest HyperCDP objects until the percentage of the protection capacity in the total storage pool capacity falls below this threshold.

    This parameter is available only after Automatically Delete Scheduled Data Protection is enabled.

    Protection Capacity Upper Limit (%)

    Percentage of the maximum protection capacity in the total storage pool capacity.

  4. Click OK.

    The Execution Result dialog box is displayed, indicating that the operation is successful.
