Managing Application Types of LUNs

Managing Application Types of LUNs

This section describes how to manage application types of LUNs.

Creating an Application Type

This operation allows you to create an application type.

Context

The default application types include: Default, Oracle_OLTP, Oracle_OLAP, Oracle_OLAP&OLTP, SQL_Server_OLAP, SQL_Server_OLTP, SQL_Server_OLAP&OLTP, SAP_HANA, VMware_VDI, Hyper-V_VDI, and FusionAccess_VDI.

Procedure
  1. Choose Provisioning > LUN > Application Type.
  2. Click Create.

The Create Application Type dialog box is displayed.

  3. Set the properties for the application type.

Table 5-14 describes the related parameters.

    Table 5-14 Application type parameters

    Parameter

    Description

    Setting

    Name

    Name of an application type.

    [Value range]

    • The name must be unique.
    • The name can contain only letters, digits, periods (.), underscores (_), and hyphens (-).
    • The name must contain 1 to 31 characters.

    [Example]

    VMware

    Application Request Size

I/O size required by the application type. The value can be 4 KB, 8 KB, 16 KB, 32 KB, 64 KB, or > 64 KB.

    [Example]

    4 KB

    SmartCompression

    Whether to enable SmartCompression.

After this function is enabled, data is compressed automatically to save storage space.

    NOTE:

    SmartCompression requires a license.

    [Example]

    Enable

    SmartDedupe

    Whether to enable SmartDedupe.

After this function is enabled, duplicate data blocks are deleted to save storage space and increase the service life of disks.

    NOTE:

    SmartDedupe requires a license.

    [Example]

    Enable

  4. Confirm the creation of the application type.

    1. Click OK.

The Execution Result dialog box is displayed, indicating that the operation is successful.

    2. Click Close.

Viewing Information About Application Types

This operation enables you to view information about all application types.

Prerequisites

At least one application type has been created.

Procedure
  1. Choose Provisioning > LUN > Application Type.
  2. View information about the application types in the list.

Table 5-15 describes the related parameters.
