Configuring Storage Resources in Batches

Configuring Storage Resources in Batches

You can import and execute a preset configuration file to create storage resources in batches.

About Batch Configuration

Batch configuration, a function provided by DeviceManager, uses configuration files to create storage resources in batches to simplify resource management.

  • Only a super administrator can use the batch configuration function.
  • During batch configuration, CLI commands are used. You can obtain command reference of the related product to learn how to effectively use these commands.
  • Currently, batch configuration supports neither the change cli timeout=? nor the change cli silent_enabled=no command.

Configuration Process

NOTE:

If you want to import an offline configuration file to configure a storage system, contact Huawei technical engineers or Huawei authorized distributors.

Configuring a Storage System Using a CLI Configuration File

You can import and execute a preset configuration file to create storage resources in batches. You are advised to download a configuration file template first, and then edit the template to import resources.

Downloading a Configuration File

This operation enables you to obtain the default configuration file template.

Prerequisites

DeviceManager is properly communicating with the storage system.

Context

The exported default configuration file template is named Example.conf.

Precautions

The configuration file template downloaded from DeviceManager is in the ANSI encoding format. You can retain the default ANSI encoding format or change the format to UTF-8 or Unicode.

Procedure
  1. Log in to DeviceManager.
  2. Choose Provisioning > Batch Configuration > CLI.
  3. Download the configuration file.

    1. Click Configuration file template.

If Windows Internet Explorer 8 is used, the File Download dialog box is displayed.

    2. Click Save.

The Save As dialog box is displayed.

    3. Select the directory where you want to save the configuration file and click Save.

Importing Configuration Files

This operation enables you to import a configuration file.

Prerequisites

The configuration file to be imported is not currently being executed.

Context
  • If a configuration file fails system check fails or is not executed during the import process, only the administrator who imports the configuration file can import a new configuration file.
  • The most recently imported configuration file will overwrite the earlier configuration file.
  • The configuration file to be imported cannot be larger than 100 KB.
Procedure
  1. Log in to DeviceManager.
  2. Choose Provisioning > Batch Configuration > CLI.
  3. Import the configuration files.

    1. Click Select.

The Selected File to Be Loaded dialog box is displayed.

    2. Select the configuration file to be imported and click Open.

The selected configuration file is displayed in the file selection area.

    3. Click Upload.

A message is displayed indicating that the upload succeeded.

Implementing Batch Configuration

This operation enables a storage system to automatically allocate storage resources based on the parameters in the configuration file to improve the storage resource configuration efficiency.

Prerequisites

A configuration file has been imported.

Context
  • The batch configuration command can be executed only by the user who imports the configuration file.
  • If the user logs out during the command execution, the storage system immediately stops the batch configuration.
  • The storage system executes the commands included in the configuration file one by one.
Procedure
  1. Log in to DeviceManager.
  2. Choose Provisioning > Batch Configuration > CLI.
  3. Click Execute to implement batch configuration.

When the progress reaches 100%, the operation is successful.

Stopping Batch Configuration

This operation enables you to stop ongoing batch configuration at any time.

Prerequisites

The storage system is implementing batch configuration.

Context

Only the user who issues the batch configuration command can stop batch configuration.

Procedure
  1. Log in to DeviceManager.
  2. Choose Provisioning > Batch Configuration > CLI.
  3. Click Stop.

The storage system stops batch configuration.

Configuring a Storage System Using an Offline Configuration File

You can import and execute an offline service configuration file to create storage resources in batches.

Importing an Offline Configuration File

This operation enables you to import an offline service configuration file.

Prerequisites

An .xml service configuration file has been obtained from Huawei technical engineers or Huawei authorized distributors.

Context
  • If a configuration file fails system check or is not executed during the import process, only the administrator who imports the configuration file can import a new configuration file.
  • The most recently imported configuration file will overwrite the earlier configuration file.
  • The configuration file to be imported cannot be larger than 1 MB.
Procedure
  1. Log in to DeviceManager.
  2. Choose Provisioning > Batch Configuration > Offline Configuration.

Implementing Offline Configuration

This operation enables a storage system to automatically allocate storage resources based on the parameters in a configuration file.

Prerequisites

A configuration file has been imported.

Context
  • The offline configuration command can be executed only by the user who imports the configuration file.
  • If the user logs out during the command execution, the storage system immediately stops the offline configuration.
  • The storage system executes the commands included in a configuration file one by one.
Procedure
  1. Log in to DeviceManager.
  2. Choose Provisioning > Batch Configuration > Offline Configuration.
  3. Click Execute to implement offline configuration.

When the progress reaches 100%, the operation is successful.

Exporting Implementation Reports

This operation enables you to export implementation reports.

Prerequisites

An offline configuration file has been imported and executed.

Procedure
  1. Log in to DeviceManager.
  2. Choose Provisioning > Batch Configuration > Offline Configuration.
  3. Click Export Implementation Reports.

The storage system starts exporting implementation reports.
