Based on the CLI provided by the DeviceManager, this document describes how to use various commands classified by functions and how to set the CLI and manage the storage system through these commands.

Function

The create snapshot general command is used to create snapshots. You can create an identical and usable point-in-time duplicate for a data object by running this command.

Format

create snapshot general { lun_id_list=? | snapshot_id_list=? } name=? [ snapshot_id=? ] [ description=? ]

lun_id_list=?

ID of a source logical unit number (LUN).

  • To obtain the value, run "show snapshot available_lun".
  • You can specify multiple source LUN IDs separated by commas (,), or ID range separated by hyphens(-), such as: 0, 5-8.

snapshot_id_list=?

ID of a snapshot.

  • To obtain the value, run "show snapshot available_snapshot".
  • You can specify multiple snapshot IDs separated by commas (,), or ID range separated by hyphens(-), such as: 0, 5-8.

name=?

Name of a snapshot.

The value contains 1 to 31 characters including letters, digits, hyphens (-), underscores (_), and periods (.).

NOTE:

When creating snapshots in a batch, the length of name=? cannot exceed 27 characters.

snapshot_id=?

ID of snapshot. You can set the snapshot ID for the newly created snapshot. It cannot be changed after you specified. The storage system can automatically assign a storage snapshot ID when you do not specify.

The value is an integer ranging from 0 to the maximum number of LUNs – 1.

NOTE:

The maximum number of LUNs supported by different product models varies. For details, see section "Software Specifications" in the product description.

Usage Guidelines

You can create multi-snapshots for different LUNs/snapshots in the mean time.

Example

  • Create a snapshot for LUN "5", and the name is "new".
    admin:/>create snapshot general lun_id_list=5 name=new 
    Create snapshot of LUN 5 successfully.
  • Create a snapshot for snapshot "5", and the name is "new".
    admin:/>create snapshot general snapshot_id_list=5 name=new 
    Create snapshot of LUN 5 successfully.
  • Create a snapshot respectively for LUNs "1", "3", and "4".
    admin:/>create snapshot general lun_id_list=1,3,4 name=new001 
    Create snapshot of LUN 1 successfully. 
    Create snapshot of LUN 3 successfully. 
    Create snapshot of LUN 4 successfully.
