Checking Historical Performance Data

Checking Historical Performance Data

A trend view displays and analyzes the performance and capacity data of a storage system of the past. The Trend function allows you to view this information for objects such as controllers, front-end ports, and back-end ports of a storage system.

Context

Before using the Trend function, check the following items:

  • Collection Switch is enabled. If it is disabled, choose System > System Configuration > Registration and Configuration and click ON to enable it.
  • Save historical monitoring data on the device is enabled. If it is disabled, enable it as instructed in 3.2.4 Configuring a Collection Policy.

This document describes how to view the trends of controllers. This process is similar for other objects, see the corresponding SystemReporter user guide.

Procedure

  1. Go to the controller monitoring page.

    1. On the top navigation bar of the SystemReporter user interface, click Monitoring.
    2. In the left navigation tree, choose Controller for the corresponding device model.
      NOTE:

If Controller is selected, performance data collected by the system does not contain data generated by interactions such as remote replication between arrays.

    3. In the right pane, click Historical.

The historical monitoring data page is displayed.

  2. Optional: Select an indicator template.

You can click Details after the Indicator Template drop-down list to view the indicators included in the current object type in the indicator template.

    NOTE:
    • If an indicator template is selected in a resource type, SystemReporter only displays the indicators that support the resource type in the indicator template.
    • If a resource type does not support any indicator in an indicator template, SystemReporter will not display that indicator template.

  3. Optional: Select a time frame from the Statistical Period list. If this parameter is not set, historical performance data of the past 24 hours is displayed by default.

Possible values are 24 hours, 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, 1 year, and Custom.

    NOTE:
    • After selecting Custom, specify the start time and end time for the trend view. The start time cannot be 365 days ago.
    • After Statistical Period is set, the corresponding time scale will be displayed in the right pane.

  4. Optional: Set Display Rules.

Display Rules can be set to top 5, top 10, top 16, bottom 5, bottom 10, bottom 16, or Customize. The default value is top 5.

    • top 5, top 10, top 16

When Display Rules is set to top 5, top 10, or top 16, the performance curves of the objects whose average performance values rank top 5, top 10, or top 16 within the Statistical Period are displayed.

    • bottom 5, bottom 10, bottom 16

When Display Rules is set to bottom 5, bottom 10, or bottom 16, the performance curves of the objects whose average performance values rank bottom 5, bottom 10, or bottom 16 within the Statistical Period are displayed.

    • Customize

When Display Rules is set to Customize, you can specify a controller and view its corresponding performance data in the function pane.

  5. In the right pane, view historical performance monitoring views of monitored items.

Follow-up Procedure

In the right pane, you can also perform the operations described in Table 3-7.
