Setting Performance Monitoring Parameters

Setting Performance Monitoring Parameters

This operation enables you to configure the sampling interval, monitoring status, and whether to save monitoring files into the storage system.

Context

  • To monitor the performance of a storage system, the performance monitoring function must be enabled. This function is enabled by default in the system.
  • This function is disabled automatically during controller software upgrade, component replacement, or operations on hot patches or heterogeneous support packages. The function will resume after these operations are completed.

Procedure

  1. Log in to OceanStor DeviceManager.
  2. Choose Settings > Monitor Settings > Parameter Settings.

The Parameter Settings page is displayed.

You can also access the Parameter Settings page using the following approach:

Choose Monitor > Performance Monitoring. In the upper function pane of the Performance Monitoring page, click Monitor Settings.

  3. Set performance monitoring parameters.

    1. Click Disable to disable the performance monitoring function.

The Execution Result dialog box is displayed, indicating that the operation has succeeded.

    2. Set performance monitoring parameters. Table 3-1 describes related parameters.
Table 3-1 Setting performance monitoring parameters

      Parameter

      Description

      Value

      Device Name

Name of the storage system to be monitored.

The parameter value is set by default and cannot be changed.

      [Example]

      Huawei.Storage

Sampling Interval of Real-Time Statistics Collection (s)

Interval between two real-time performance data sampling tasks.

      [Value]

      5, 10, 30, or 60, expressed in seconds

      [Default value]

      5

      [Example]

      5

Sampling Interval of Historical Statistics Collection (s)

Interval between two historical performance data sampling tasks

      [Value]

      5, 60, 120, 300, 600, 1800, or 3600, expressed in seconds

      [Default value]

      60

      [Example]

      60

Save monitoring data on the device

      • When this parameter is set to Enabled, performance monitoring files are saved in the storage system. Every controller of the storage system can save performance monitoring files onto coffer disks. The file save path is /OSM/coffer_data/perf/perf_files/. All the files saved by the controllers compose complete performance data. Dump historical performance monitoring files in time because every controller provides only 652.8 MB space to store the files. Files not dumped in time will be overwritten by new files.
      NOTE:

You can query, delete, and export performance monitoring files using CLI commands.

      • Run the show performance file command to query the performance monitoring files saved in the storage system.
      • Run the delete performance file command to delete performance monitoring files from the storage system.
      • Run the export performance file command to export performance monitoring files from the storage system. The exported performance monitoring files can be viewed using SystemReporter. For details, see the corresponding SystemReporter user guide.

For details about how to use the commands, see the Command Reference of the corresponding product model.

      • When this parameter is set to Disabled, performance monitoring files are not saved in the storage system.
      NOTE:

For easy storage system maintenance, set Save monitoring data on the device to Enabled and configure performance monitoring file dumping. For details, see Configuring Performance Monitoring File Dumping.

      [Value]

      Enabled or Disabled

      [Default value]

      Enabled

      Status

Status of the performance monitoring switch.

      • When the parameter is set to Enabled, the performance monitoring function is turned on.
      • When the parameter is set to Disabled, the performance monitoring function is turned off.

      [Value]

      Enabled or Disabled

      [Default value]

      Enabled

      [Example]

      Enabled

      Monitoring Start Time

Time to start monitoring storage system performance.

      • When performance monitoring is enabled, the value of Monitoring Start Time is the time to start monitoring storage system performance.
      • When performance monitoring is disabled, the value of Monitoring Start Time is --.

The parameter value is set by default and cannot be changed.

      [Example]

      2015-09-18 16:35:13 UTC+08:00

    3. Click Enable.

The Execution Result dialog box is displayed, indicating that the operation has succeeded.
