Analyzing Cache Performance

A cache is the key module that improves performance and user experience. Cache configurations on the performance of write functions are important areas of focus.

If the cache write policy is write-back, a write success message is returned to the host as soon as each write I/O arrives at the cache. Then, the cache sorts and combines data before writing to disks.

If problems such as backup battery unit (BBU) fault, single-controller state, controller overheating, and excessive number of LUN fault pages occur during service running, the LUN health status may switch to write protection. In this situation, data cannot be written to disks but can be read. Write protection prevents data in disks from being modified.

You can query the properties of a LUN on DeviceManager or the CLI and obtain the current LUN health status and cache write policy.

  • To query the LUN properties on DeviceManager:

  • Health Status refers to the LUN health status.
  • Write Policy refers to the configured cache write policy.
  • Running Write Policy refers to the cache write policy currently in use.

If the LUN health status is write protection, check for the cause, for example, whether a BBU is faulty, the system is running in single-controller mode, a controller is overheated, or the number of LUN fault pages exceeds the threshold.
