Replacing a Fan Module of a TaiShan 2280 12-Slot Node, TaiShan 5280 36-Slot Node, TaiShan 2280 V2 12-Slot Node, or TaiShan 5280 V2 36-Slot Node

Replacing a Fan Module of a TaiShan 2280 12-Slot Node, TaiShan 5280 36-Slot Node, TaiShan 2280 V2 12-Slot Node, or TaiShan 5280 V2 36-Slot Node

Fan modules dissipate heat and support zone-based fan speed adjustment.

Impact on the System

Before replacing a fan module on a storage node, you must power off the node. This will adversely affect the services running on the node.

Prerequisites

  • A spare fan module is ready.
  • The faulty fan module has been located.

Precautions

None

Tools and Materials

  • Flat-head screwdrivers
  • Phillips screwdrivers
  • ESD gloves
  • ESD wrist straps
  • ESD bags
  • Labels

Replacement Process

Replace a fan module by following the process shown in Figure 12-10.

Procedure

  1. Remove the storage node from its cabinet and remove the chassis cover. For details, see Basic Operations.
  2. Remove the fan module.

    1. Open the memory windows on the air duct, as shown in step 1 in the following figures.

    2. Lift the fan module slowly, as shown in step 2 in the preceding figures.
    3. When the fan module is loose, remove it from the slot.

  3. Place the removed fan module in an ESD bag.
  4. Take the spare fan module out of its ESD bag.
  5. Install the fan module.

    1. Insert the fan module along the guide rails into the slot until you hear a click. Check that the fan cable connector is securely inserted into the mainboard connector, as shown in step 1 in the following figures.

      Figure 12-18 Installing a fan module of a TaiShan 5280 V2 node
    2. Close the memory windows on the air duct, as shown in step 2 in the preceding figures.

  6. Install the chassis cover and put the storage node into the cabinet. For details, see Basic Operations.
  7. Connect the storage node to the power sockets and peripheral devices according to the cable connection labels. Ensure that all cables are correctly connected and then power on the storage node. If the storage node is not powered on, press the power button on the front panel.
  8. Check whether the fan module is successfully installed.

Log in to the iBMC page on the storage node. Choose Information > System Info > Fans. Query the fan status and check whether the fan module is successfully installed.
    • If information about the new fan is included in Name, the fan is successfully installed.
    • If information about the new fan is not included in Name, the fan fails to be installed. Reinstall it. If the fan information cannot be obtained, contact Huawei technical support.

  9. Check the system status.

On SmartKit, choose Home > Storage > Routine Maintenance > More > Inspection and check the system status.
    • If all inspection items pass the inspection, the inspection is successful.
    • If some inspection items fail, the inspection fails. Rectify the faults by taking recommended actions in the inspection reports. Perform inspection again after fault rectification. If the inspection still fails, contact Huawei technical support.

For details, see the FusionStorage OBS Administrator Guide.
