Replacing a Mounting Ear Plate of a TaiShan 2280 12-Slot Node

Replacing a Mounting Ear Plate of a TaiShan 2280 12-Slot Node

This section describes how to replace a mounting ear plate.

Impact on the System

Before replacing the left or right mounting ear plate on a storage node, you must power off the node. This will adversely affect the services running on the node.

Prerequisites

A spare mounting ear plate is ready.

Precautions

Before replacing mounting ear plates, mark the connections of the cables.

Tools and Materials

  • Flat-head screwdrivers
  • Phillips screwdrivers
  • ESD gloves
  • ESD wrist straps
  • ESD bags
  • Labels

Replacement Process

Replace a mounting ear plate by following the process shown in Figure 14-9.

Procedure

  1. Remove the storage node from its cabinet and remove the chassis cover. For details, see Basic Operations.
  2. Remove the air duct.

Lift the air duct according to the signs on the air duct, as shown in Figure 14-10.

  3. Remove the fan module.

    1. Open the memory windows on the air duct, as shown in step 1 in Figure 14-11.

    2. Lift the fan module slowly, as shown in step 2 in Figure 14-11.
    3. When the fan module is loose, remove it from the slot.

  4. Remove the fan module bracket.

Press and hold down the latches on both sides of the fan module bracket, and lift the fan module bracket, as shown in steps 1 and 2 in Figure 14-12.

  5. Remove the mounting ear plate.

    1. Press and hold down the latch of the mounting ear plate signal cable, and remove the mounting ear plate signal cable in the arrow direction, as shown in step 1 in Figure 14-13 or steps 1 and 2 in Figure 14-14.

    2. Unscrew the mounting ear plate, as shown in step 2 in Figure 14-13 or step 3 in Figure 14-14.
    3. Remove the mounting ear plate in the arrow direction and slowly pull the mounting ear plate signal cable out of the chassis along the chassis interior surface, as shown in step 3 in Figure 14-13 or step 4 in Figure 14-14.

  6. Place the removed mounting ear plate in an ESD bag.
  7. Take the spare mounting ear plate out of its ESD bag.
  8. Install the mounting ear plate.

    1. Route the mounting ear plate signal cable through the chassis in the arrow direction, as shown in step 1 in Figure 14-15 or Figure 14-16.

    2. Remove the adhesive backing from the signal cable and route the signal cable along the grooves within the node. Bend the signal cable only along its black lines.

Perform this step only when installing the right mounting ear plate.

    3. Connect the mounting ear plate signal cable to the mounting ear plate connector on the mainboard, as shown in step 2 in Figure 14-15 or Figure 14-16.
    4. Install the mounting ear plate in the arrow direction, as shown in step 3 in Figure 14-15 or Figure 14-16.
    5. Screw the mounting ear plate, as shown in step 4 in Figure 14-15 or Figure 14-16.

  9. Install the fan module bracket.

Insert the fan module bracket into the chassis, as shown in Figure 14-17.

  10. Install the fan module.

    1. Insert the fan module along the guide rails into the slot until you hear a click. Check that the fan cable connector is securely inserted into the mainboard connector, as shown in step 1 in Figure 14-18.
Figure 14-18 Installing a fan module
    2. Close the memory windows on the air duct, as shown in step 2 in Figure 14-18.

  11. Install the air duct.

Align the positioning pins on the air duct with the fixing holes on the mainboard according to the instructions on the chassis, and vertically place the air duct downwards, as shown in Figure 14-19.

Figure 14-19 Installing an air duct

  12. Install the chassis cover and put the storage node into the cabinet. For details, see Basic Operations.
  13. Connect the storage node to the power sockets and peripheral devices according to the cable connection labels. Ensure that all cables are correctly connected and then power on the storage node. If the storage node is not powered on, press the power button on the front panel.
  14. Check the system status.

On SmartKit, choose Home > Storage > Routine Maintenance > More > Inspection and check the system status.
    • If all inspection items pass the inspection, the inspection is successful.
    • If some inspection items fail, the inspection fails. Rectify the faults by taking recommended actions in the inspection reports. Perform inspection again after fault rectification. If the inspection still fails, contact Huawei technical support.

For details, see the FusionStorage OBS Administrator Guide.

Follow-up Procedure
